Work has already begun on decarbonising our buildings and council vehicles and we are installing Electric Vehicle charge points across the Borough. You will be part of a team developing and implementing a range of projects such as Net Zero Trafford Park, Heat Networks, and improving our green spaces such as Longford Park and allotments. Working with a wide range of stakeholders, you will develop and implement policies, strategies and projects that will take us towards the target of becoming a Net Zero Carbon emitting borough by 2038.
About you
We are seeking a dynamic sustainability and climate change expert that understands the challenges and opportunities presented by Climate Change and addressing wider sustainability issues. Your style and approach will reflect our values and behaviours: you will be committed to continually learning & improving the way you do things to ensure effective outcomes; you will work together to deliver service; you will enjoy taking personal responsibility to resolve issues and change what you do and how you do it to make a difference.
Applicants must have a degree or equivalent qualification. You will have 3 years relevant experience involving collaborative working across a range of stakeholders and a good understanding of the principles of sustainability and climate change.
About us
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior professional looking to take the next step in their career or move to a dynamic and fast-paced local authority. Excellent written and communication skills are essential as you will be interacting with businesses, the general public, partner agencies, other Council officers and elected members.
The Sustainability & Climate Change function sits within the Strategic Planning and Growth team, which is part of the Growth, Communities and Housing Service; based at the recently rebuilt Town Hall in Stretford, and you will report to the Principal Sustainability & Climate Change Officer. A flexible hours and working policy is in place and some unsocial hours working is required on occasions.
We recognise that having a diverse workforce is essential to bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to our Council, so we particularly welcome applications from minority, marginalised and diverse groups, and we in turn promise a fair and unbiased recruitment process.
