We now have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Scrub to join our team within Orpington Theatres. The Kings Elective Orthopaedic Unit in Orpington is part of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and provides comprehensive healthcare services for a diverse community. The Unit consists of 4 laminar flow operating theatres, nine recovery bays and an admission lounge.
Our Theatre operates Monday - Friday between the hours 8:00 am - 6:30 pm
Due to the expansion of our service, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated person to lead an experienced scrub team in Orpington Theatres.
You will have the motivation, vision and leadership qualities necessary to lead a successful theatre team. As a key member of the senior team, you will deliver high standards of perioperative care, and have the ability to support and develop theatre practitioners to facilitate excellent patient care in the operating theatres. We would be extremely interested in applications from experienced scrub nurses.
You must be a Registered Nurse (NMC) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) with a proven record within the Orthopaedic perioperative speciality. You must have achieved your mentorship or SSSA course and a recognised specialist course is desirable. You should have a degree or be willing to work towards it.
Our senior team and practice development team will support you though your induction period. We also offer excellent educational opportunities from in-house study courses to post graduate education through local Universities.

Clinical Practice
1. To deliver a high standard of evidence-based care to a specified group of patients.
2. To adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and standards for registration at all times.
3. To maintain confidentiality at all times.
4. To support patients, relatives, carers, and friends and where appropriate involve them in the care of the patient.
5. To be fully involved in the health education of patients and relatives, identifying each opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle.
6. To liaise effectively with all multi-disciplinary team members to ensure the relevant information regarding the patient’s needs/condition are communicated to them (including handover), and that any instructions from them regarding the patient’s care/condition are acted upon.
7. To adhere to the Trust policy on valuing equality and diversity in the workplace, which incorporates the patients/visitors and staff
8. To acknowledge personal limitations in patient care and seek advice from senior staff members.
9. To rotate to other clinical areas within the department as required or as identified as a personal development need in the appraisal process.
10. To be involved with department audit/essence of care/observations of care.
11. To report adverse incidents which occur in the department as per policy and assist in the investigation of such incidences as necessary
12. To maintain up-to-date and comprehensive records of care in accordance with NMC, legal and Trust requirements
13. To demonstrate effective communication and customer care skills with patients and their relatives/carers, thereby acting as a positive role model for nurses and other staff
Education and Research
1. To keep up to date with current research to promote evidence-based practice within the clinical area.
2. To participate in Trust and Division initiatives to develop nursing practice
3. To assist in the teaching, supervision and practice development of junior colleagues and students
4. To actively participate in the training process by demonstrating and directly supervising.
5. To participate in research and audit within the department
Management
1. To manage an agreed workload with support from colleagues and senior staff as appropriate.
2. To exercise leadership where appropriate.
3. To ensure all Trust and local policies, protocols and procedures are adhered to by self and colleagues at all times
4. To participate with the monitoring of standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the department and report as necessary
5. To work within and support the multi-disciplinary team
6. To share knowledge and skills developed with other members of the multi-disciplinary team
7. To ensure effective admission/discharge of patients to the department liaising with other hospital departments as appropriate.
8. To maintain effective communication and professional relationships with all areas within the Division and with associated clinical areas in the Trust
9. To observe personal responsibility for resource management
10. To observe a general duty of care for the health, safety and well-being of self, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management associated with this post
Personal professional development
1. To ensure own clinical knowledge is kept up to date in respect to evidence based practice, NMC and Trust guidelines/protocols
2. To achieve a range of clinical competencies as required within the Trust and Division
3. To actively participate in team meetings.
4. To actively participate in own performance appraisal as required by the Trust
5. To maintain your own personal and professional PREP requirements, attending mandatory study sessions as required by the Trust
