About us…

Thames Reach runs projects and services that help to end homelessness in London. We work directly with homeless people on the streets and in hostels. We work to prevent vulnerable people from becoming homeless. We help formerly homeless people get their lives back on track. We help people find work and access training and volunteering opportunities.

About this role…

Every role at Thames Reach is about ensuring that the users of our services find and sustain a decent home, develop supportive relationships and lead fulfilling lives. Yours will focus on reducing the number of people rough sleeping in the borough of Croydon. As you learn and develop in your role, you’ll combine office and street-based work, sometimes working daytime Monday-Friday, sometimes early morning and late night outreach shifts, with some weekends. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Direct key working/casework with rough sleepers, supporting them to access services and accommodation.
  • Responding to referrals and carrying out assessments with new rough sleepers, to identify support needs and refer to relevant agencies.
  • Working alongside agencies, including the local authority, mental health services, drug and alcohol services and housing providers.
  • Working as part of a supportive team with lead workers, complex caseworkers and assistant support workers.
  • Keeping accurate records of all work done.

The kind of things we’re looking for…

  • Compassion, determination and a desire to play your part in ending street homelessness.
  • An understanding of working with rough sleepers or vulnerable adults and supporting them to access services.
  • Organisation and time-management skills to work independently and coordinate a high number of cases.
  • The adaptability and commitment to work in a challenging, ever-changing environment.
  • Great communication and the confidence to build partnerships and represent Thames Reach to external organisations.
  • The ability to use Outlook, online recording systems, Excel and Word, on a tablet/smartphone.
  • A clean driving licence.

What you can expect…

  • Generous holiday allowance – 29 days per year plus 8 public holidays (pro rata).
  • Pension – we contribute 6.5% to your pension when you contribute 1.5%.
  • Excellent development opportunities – career progression, regular supervision and appraisals, and learning programmes to support your career with Thames Reach.
  • Wellbeing support – our 24/7 employee assistance programme and opportunities for TOIL.
  • Life assurance – four times your annual salary with cover starting on your first day of employment.
  • Critical illness cover.
  • Other benefits including interest free season ticket and cycle to work loans.

Thames Reach welcomes applications from people with transferable skills and fresh perspectives. We are committed to achieving a diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We value, respect, and celebrate diversity.

We welcome and encourage applicants from all sections of the community regardless of their history of homelessness, sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, or religious belief.
