DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MANAGERIAL To manage, supervise and develop staff and volunteers working in the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre (MCISC) ensuring adherence to the Macmillan Quality Standards of good practice outlined by Macmillan Cancer Supports Quality in Information and Support Services (MQUISS). To ensure the information used in the Cancer Information Centre is up-to-date, relevant and consistent with current best practice in cancer care and treatment. To co-ordinate, supervise and manage all supplementary services in operation from the MCISC To identify new initiatives to enhance service provision, ensuring standards are maintained and improved. To maintain effective communication networks, working relationships and attend meetings with other Macmillan and healthcare professionals to ensure that the services provided in the MCISC are integrated with and complementary to those of the Trust and other MCISCs nationally.
To participate in research, audit and service evaluation To maintain close working relationships with local cancer centres, support groups and other support agencies. To actively promote the MCISC and encourage referrals. To organise and lead on regular steering group meetings to demonstrate service developments, service need, patient experience and feedback Evaluate, recommend and implement new initiatives in response to need and service user feedback Improve effectiveness and efficiency of the service in response to needs analysis and user feedback ensuring high quality standards. To produce annual reports.
Undertake service needs analysis and produce service reviews as required. Demonstrate flexibility to manage unpredictable and fluctuating patterns of work which often require immediate response. CLINICAL / OPERATIONAL To receive and answer direct queries about all aspects of cancer care (face-to-face, written, telephone and e-mail) liaising with other staff and seeking advice and signposting as appropriate in line with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust policies Exercise judgement in identification of service users needs and provided appropriate support and information tailored to the individual Communicate sensitively and compassionately in highly emotive situations, utilising advanced communication skills Provide both practical and emotional support and information to visitors, giving them the opportunity to acknowledge and express their concerns in a safe environment To maintain appropriate records and data for service evaluation as per trust policies and procedures.

To formulate or contribute to relevant trust policies and guidelines Collaborative working with multi-disciplinary professions to contribute the provision of patient information prescriptions EDUCATIONAL To maintain own professional registration (if applicable?) and communication skills. To identify own professional educational and training needs to include attendance on relevant study days.
To assist with the development of related educational programmes for staff and specific groups, as requested. To act as a specialist resource for the development and maintenance of patient information. To act as a specialist resource, providing knowledge and advice for staff within the primary and secondary health care settings. To provide education to the general public and health care professionals on the role and purpose of the MCISC.
