Our Humber region is comprised for 4 ports in Hull, Goole, Grimsby and Immingham. Each port is unique in its make-up and the benefit it brings to the UK, and therefore offers their own engineering approach - whether the largest UK port by tonnage in Immingham to the one of the great historical ports of the UK in Grimsby.


We're currently looking to recruit an experienced Substation Inspector to work in the Humber region, to undertake inspections of the electrical substations and assets throughout the Humber region, to include completion of inspection reports, and basic testing. You'll need to be a time serviced electrician with experience working in the industrial or commercial sectors primarily and should have an understanding of both LV and HV distribution networks - some experience of working for a DNO would be ideal.


Key responsibilities are:

  • Carry out periodic inspections of High Voltage Substations and Low Voltage Distribution equipment across the Humber ports (Hull, Goole, Immingham and Grimsby)
  • Complete equipment asset inspection reports using a CMMS (computer maintenance management system) system.
  • Identify defects and report accordingly via the equipment asset inspection reports.
  • Identify, assess, and repair small defects as required.
  • Carry out basic earth testing of substation earthing systems in accordance with approved procedures.

You'll need to have a full driving licence, but can be based from either Hull or Immingham as the role covers all of our Ports in the Humber. Experience of using Mainsaver would be ideal, but would need knowledge of a CMMS system.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Basic Understanding of Electrical Distribution networks (HV and LV) and equipment
  • Trained to a minimum of an IOSH accredited course with respect to safety
  • Computer skills (Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Driving licence
  • Ability to prioritise workload with efficiency and effectiveness, coordinating to a range of activities
  • A sound knowledge of port operation and infrastructure (ideal)
  • Previous experience working in substations or on High Voltage equipment (ideal)
  • Access to substation qualification (ideal)
  • Basic understanding of electrical distribution Protection systems (ideal)
