Substance Misuse Worker (tier 3) - secondment/fixed term opportunity until the 31 March 2025 due to funding
Salary: Band: 7, £27,852 - £32,020 p.a.

The Drug & Alcohol Support Service are looking for substance misuse workers to join their team. The Service aims to improve outcomes for young people aged up to 19yrs and up to 25yrs for care leaving young people with learning difficulties and disabilities. We do this through providing substance use interventions with young people, also providing Information, Advice and Guidance for a range of issues as appropriate. We support vulnerable young people who are at risk or future risk of further issues such as exploitation, offending, teenage pregnancy and homelessness
Your New Role
As a Substance Use Worker with DASS (Drug & Alcohol Support Service) this role will be providing substance misuse interventions for young people at a Drug & Alcohol Tier 3 level with some interventions at Tier 2 level when required.
Work will range from:
- 1:1 assessments and interventions with young people experiencing substance use/misuse concerns
- You will contribute to key multi-agency meetings e.g. Child in Need/Child Protection
- Contribute to networks to support health improvement and local community development
- Occasional targeted session delivery and education (Tier 2) and recording of data for numbers of young people receiving this support
- Supporting/co-ordinating campaigns and events to ensure young people receive information advice and guidance through both outreach and promotional work
- Supporting colleagues offering expert advice and guidance in a variety of settings
- Work with young people and stakeholders to collate their views with regards to substance use services for young people
- Supporting working in a new 'hub' for young people, working on a rota for one evening per week.
- Delivering training to the Portsmouth workforce when required
- Support delivery of the work at a 'hub' for young people
You may be required to work some evenings due to the nature of the role within youth settings and to support young people who may be employed. There may be a requirement to work the occasional weekend to participate in any events.
What you'll need to succeed
As well as substantial experience of working with young people, you will have a nationally recognised qualification (equivalent to NVQ level 4 or higher) in the Health, Youth, Community, Social Care or Education field. In addition you will have experience of identifying and responding effectively to potential safeguarding issues as of working within clear boundaries

Please note that the interview process is in 2 stages. If you are short listed for interview the first part of the process will be a formal interview with a work related exercise. If successful from the interview you will then move on to a second stage where you will spend some time at a youth project meeting, interacting and meeting with young people.
