Job description

Company Description

We're ASOS. We blend our flair for fashion with our love of cutting-edge technology, but more importantly we're interested in how we can bring the best out of you.

We exist to give people the confidence to be whoever they want to be, and that goes for our people too. At ASOS, you're free to be your true self without judgment, and channel your creativity into a platform used by millions.

Job Description

The Sub Editor works with the Chief Sub Editor to ensure ASOS content is error-free, consistent and in the correct tone of voice. This includes homepage, promo copy, Style Feed articles, CRM emails and push notifications, brand partnerships content, organic/paid social, UX/UI and special projects. It goes without saying that the candidate will have an instinctive understanding of spelling, punctuation, grammar and syntax - but the ability to scrutinise tone of voice is also key to this role.

Reporting to the Chief Sub Editor, the Sub Editor works closely with editors and writers in the Brand Content Team, part of the wider Creative Lab in the Marketing Department. Our work involves collaborating with multiple teams across the business, from CRM, Retail, Fashion, SEO and Trade to Sustainability, Brand Strategy, Corporate Comms, PR, Tech and Legal.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the Chief Sub to sub-edit and proof-read all ASOS content (excluding product descriptions), including emails, push notifications, homepage, promo copy, brand partnerships content, organic/paid social and special projects, plus reactive trade requests, UX/UI and special projects
  • Subbing and publishing Style Feed articles
  • Testing homepage and promo links for the content management team
  • Assisting the translations team to ensure our copy is correctly interpreted
  • Assisting the Chief Sub with internal language guidelines, competitor research and tone-of-voice projects
  • Keeping up to date with twenty-something language trends, particularly online

Qualifications

We'd love to meet someone with

  • At least 1-2 years' experience in a sub-editor role and a genuine passion for subbing
  • Digital marketing/digital publishing experience preferred
  • Can juggle a large number of tasks and maintain consistent accuracy across a variety of projects
  • Works quickly and flexibly to accommodate high-priority requests
  • Has the ability to scrutinise language, flagging potential conflicts and ensuring tone is consistently 'ASOS'
  • Can think 'globally', with the ability to adapt UK copy to different markets (especially US), and to flag/explain English words and phrases that might get lost in translation for non-English markets
  • Super-organised and communicative, able to keep projects moving, understands what a good process looks like
  • Experience with fashion content and/or a 20-something audience preferred
  • Comfortable working with Excel, Teams and a CMS
  • A proactive team player, comfortable with a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • An interest in the fashion, trends and pop-culture our 20-something audience love, as well as a passion for the ASOS brand

Additional Information

What's in it for you

  • Competitive salary, pension, and private medical care scheme
  • Performance related bonus
  • Flex benefits allowance - which you can chose to take as extra cash, or use towards other benefits
  • 25 days paid annual leave + an extra day for your birthday
