Job description
At MacIntyre, every child is different, and every day is different.
You'll be working at our vibrant children's home in Wingrave, where we support children and young people with severe learning disabilities, autism and complex behaviours. The children’s home is on the site of MacIntyre School, a residential special school in Wingrave village, which is located between Aylesbury and Leighton Buzzard.
You'll join our Summer Placement Scheme as a temporary Support Worker from June through to September 2023. Usually, our Summer Support Workers are students studying relevant courses at university or college. Perhaps you're doing a course in social care, psychology, learning disabilities, nursing or similar. Perhaps you have a particular interest in working with young people who are on the autistic spectrum?
We've been running our popular summer scheme for several years, providing excellent opportunities for students to gain valuable experience and skills.
"I started working for MacIntyre in 2005 as a Learning Support Assistant. Over the years, many of my colleagues have become my friends. Through training, role modelling, mentoringand encouragement to develop professionally, I am now the lead for intensive interaction at MacIntyre! This is my dream job and I'm grateful to be part of such a warm and caring team" - Kate Webb, Intensive Interaction Mentor.
About the role
You will work in the children’s home, joining in with young people's daily lives and supporting their participation in community activities and hobbies. You'll have the opportunity to support them on days out to theme parks, the seaside and other leisure pursuits such as sailing, horse-riding, sports and skiing. Perhaps you can also bring some fun and interesting hobbies of your own to share with us?
The role may involve some personal care, and young people sometimes present with behaviours of concern. Our experts will give you full training so that you understand the functions of these behaviours, and we will support and train you in how to respond. You will also receive training in safeguarding young people.
