Job description
The Gallatin College Academic Advisor is responsible for the Advising, Student Services, Career Services and Academic Success programs provided to Gallatin College students enrolled in Gallatin College’s Associate of Art or Science degree programs as well as Workforce Programs. This position must work closely with Gallatin College faculty and staff within each department. This position is a student-focused advising position which requires considerable student contact. All responsibilities are carried out in compliance with state law, federal law and University and College policy and procedure.
Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as project/service coordinator for one of three focus areas: Admissions and Enrollment, Student Success Initiatives or Career Placement.
Admission and Enrollment
Coordinates Gallatin College orientations
Student Success Initiatives
Develops academic success initiatives that will improve retention and completion.
Career Placement
Assists local business and local industry in hiring GC students and graduates.
Provides academic advising services to Gallatin College Associate of Arts and Science degree-seeking students and Workforce degree-seeking students primarily at the Gallatin College “East” location and the MSU Campus.
Counsels and advises Gallatin College students regarding their academic plan, career goals and transition to college.
Initiates outreach to developmental students through Early Alert program and midterm D/F grade contacts.
Compiles success data and creates reports.
Interacts with Gallatin College students, faculty, and staff on a daily basis.
Liaise with MSU Disability Services, Academic Advising Center, Office of Student Success and other MSU resources..
Works closely with other Gallatin College advisors and serves Gallatin College degree seeking students as needed.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Demonstrated experience working with college students or similar population as mentor, advisor or coach in a professional environment.
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office applications and learning new technologies and software programs.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Master’s Degree in Adult and Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling or related discipline.
Demonstrated experience advising , coaching or teaching college students.
Demonstrated experience in Admissions, Enrollment, Advising, Student Success or Career Placement, especially college students.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
This position may require some evening work.
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Montana driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points).
