Job description
The I WILL GRADUATE Youth Development Program is looking for candidates to be Success Mentors for students living in temporary housing. Mentors will provide targeted support to students. The goal of the program is to improve attendance, reduce truancy, and ultimately improve academic performance, setting these students up for success in the future.
Job Duration: July 24 2023 - June 2024
Days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday
Time: 7 am-4 pm (1hr lunch break)
Duties and responsibilities:
- Help students increase attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism, the expected outcome is that students will add an average of 1 additional day of school attendance per week.
- Aid students in developing a better understanding of Math/ELA skills for upcoming tests.
- Encouraging students to become more involved with their school through participation in after-school programs.
- Help students increase school connectedness which will lead to improved academic performance.
- Track academic progress and achievements of all students, while simultaneously aiding students in reaching a high standard of excellence.
- Helping students create strong relationships to motivate them to raise their self-esteem.
Overall, the Success Mentoring program has several expected outcomes that aim to improve attendance, academic performance, and school connectedness among students in temporary housing. By focusing on these outcomes, the program can help these vulnerable students overcome the challenges they face and excel academically.
Requirements:
- Experience in working with middle school and high school students is highly encouraged.
- College graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required.
- Must be available one Saturday per month.
- Must be DOE fingerprinted, or willing to get fingerprinted.
- Must have a strong academic background in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
- Must be versatile and flexible.
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: Up to $25.00 per hour
