
Structural Analysis (Stress) Engineer Didcot, England
Job description
Astroscale UK, one of Time's 100 most influential companies 2022, is looking for a Stress Engineer to join our Mechanical Team at our brand-new facility based at the Harwell Space Cluster, UK.
This role is vital in ensuring the safety of our missions by defining test parameters and predictions, before following through with assessing mechanical parts during the test procedures.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the growth of the team by innovating design methods, qualification approaches, manufacturing techniques and testing techniques.
- Justify the structural integrity of prototype and flight components at various stages of the load cycle.
- Assess analyses and test data to support the qualification of spacecraft and ground support structures.
- Prepare test predictions to support dynamic testing.
- Communicate design recommendations to the CAD team and other subsystems.
- Ensure the documents and files generated are organised and traceable.
- Peer-review the works of other team members.
Essential Skills
- Perform structural calculations on sandwich panels, inserts and bolted joints according to established standards and handbooks.
- Create finite element models at global and component levels, and to perform standard checks.
- Perform frequency response and random vibration analyses.
- Experienced with any of these: Nastran, HyperWorks, Femap, Abaqus or ANSYS.
- Process large amount of data through automation (VBA or Python).
- Produce documents and presentations and conform to the configuration process.
Desirable skills
- Familiar with ECSS and NASA guidance.
- Familiar with structure development cycle.
- Proactively seek the needs to create specific objectives and be accountable on time and deliverables.
- Be ready for changes; seek clarifications; apply sound engineering judgement if well-established information is lacking.
