The UCL Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering is one of the top research and teaching departments in the UK and has world-class standing. The Department has an extensive research portfolio across a wealth of areas and has consistently been among the best funded such departments in the UK. The research carried out in the department reflects a broad multidisciplinary view of the engineering world and encompasses navigation of space shuttles and control of observation satellites, to tunnelling beneath the planet’s surface, for example. Research projects and centres span disciplines to provide new and innovative solutions and thinking that refers back to the human and the applied. The Strategic Partnerships Team is responsible for formulating, directing and managing the engagement of the department at all levels with public and private industry for the purpose of knowledge transfer relevant to the commercial and/or strategic development of such organisations. Particular focus will be given to the collaboration with industry to secure industry-led projects and placements at all levels.
About the role
This role provides high-level administrative support for managing the engagement of departmental staff at all level with the industry partners that are involved in students’ projects, in particular with the Institute of Finance and Technology, sponsored research activities, partnerships in new research centres and programmes, outreach activities including seminar series and professional development activities organised by the department and targeted at external organisations. It supports the Strategic Partnerships Director with the management of the department’s portfolio of external relationships. This includes managing a variety of corporate and public sector relationships ranging from start-ups to global corporations; building on current relations and forging new links that will enhance the reputation of the department within industry.
About you
You will have an innovative approach and an ability to develop and maintain excellent customer relations, including managing stakeholder expectations. Your interpersonal skills will enable you to develop effective relationships with internal and external staff at all levels including existing and potential commercial and industrial partners. The relationships you build will be intrinsic to the success of your role. This will include engaging with Faculty and Central UCL services colleagues to maximise opportunities for the department, as well as working alongside other members of the professional services team so that together we can support our academic colleagues and students.
