Stores Person
Purpose
The role of a Stores Person is to manage and maintain inventory within a company's storage facilities, ensuring efficient storage, retrieval, and distribution of goods. The Stores Person is responsible for overseeing stock levels, organising stock movements, and coordinating with other departments to meet operational requirements.
1. Principal Accountabilities
The Stores Person will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
a. Receiving incoming shipments, verifying their contents, and inspecting for damages or discrepancies.
b. Recording and organising inventory levels, ensuring accurate stock counts through regular stocktaking.
c. Managing stock movements, including issuing and receiving goods, ensuring proper documentation and record-keeping i.e. Goods Received Notices (GRNs).
d. Collaborating with procurement teams to ensure timely ordering and delivery of required materials and supplies.
e. Conducting regular inspections of storage areas to maintain cleanliness, organisation, and compliance with safety regulations.
f. Coordinating with other departments, such as commercial, finance and operations, to fulfil material requests and support operational needs.
g. Packaging and preparing items for shipment, ensuring appropriate labelling and documentation.
i. Assisting in the implementation and optimisation of inventory management systems and procedures.
j. Identifying and resolving inventory discrepancies or issues, investigating and reporting on root causes.
k. Assisting in the identification and disposal of obsolete or excess stock.
l. Maintaining accurate records of stock movements, including receipts, issues, and transfers.
m. Complying with health and safety regulations, ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
n. Collaborating with suppliers to resolve any delivery or quality issues.
o. Providing support in the development and improvement of stores management processes.
2. Detailed Responsibilities
a. Maintain accurate inventory records, including stock levels, locations, and transactions.
b. Conduct regular stock audits to ensure inventory accuracy and identify discrepancies.
c. Monitor and report on stock levels, recommending reorder points and quantities.
d. Coordinate with commercial, purchasing and finance departments to reconcile purchase orders, invoices, GRNs and receipts.
e. Ensure compliance with storage and handling requirements for different types of goods.
f. Optimise space utilisation and storage efficiency.
g. Assist in the implementation and utilisation of inventory management software or systems.
3. Required experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training
a. Proven experience as a Stores Person or in a similar role, preferably in a warehouse environment.
b. Knowledge of inventory management principles and best practices.
c. Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
d. Proficient in using computer systems and inventory management software.
e. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
f. Basic understanding of health and safety regulations in a warehousing environment.
4. Desirable experience, qualifications, and training
a. Certification or training in warehouse management or inventory control.
b. Ability to operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, safely and efficiently.
c. Familiarity with lean principles or continuous improvement methodologies.
d. First Aid certification or training.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: £18,000.00-£25,000.00 per year
