Job description
We are seeking a Sterile Services Assistant to join our team based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex.
In this role you will be responsible for assisting the Associate Sterile Services Manager and Associate Sterile Services Manager for Production to provide a safe reliable and efficient service. You will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of professional expertise and ensuring a high standard of work in assembling, checking and inspecting instruments. The department has produced over 50 thousand items in the last year.
As a Sterile Services Assistant, you will ensure that instruments used in theatre are reprocessed and returned, clean and sterile.
You will also be responsible for the following:
- Collection and delivery of theatre trays, weighing up to 20kg
- Inspecting the wash area and loading/unloading the washer disinfectors
- Inspecting the instruments for cleanliness and functionality and packing them ready for autoclaving
- Loading and unloading the autoclaves for the sterilisation process
We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

Duties include: -
Preparation of specialised packs.
Cleaning and washing of soiled instruments
Cleaning, inspection and packaging of instruments into theatre trays.
Use of the autoclaves to sterilise Theatre trays, packs and instruments
Delivery and collection of theatre trays and instruments from theatres wards and departments
Maintaining suitable records.
To undertake any other appropriate duties if so required by the Sterile Services Management.
Some bank holiday cover / Weekend on-call will be required and partake in a Saturday rota (maximum 1:3) . To carry out On-Call in accordance with Trust Value and KPI’s
