Job description
We are looking to recruit a motivated and registered nurse who wishes to progress their career through training within the Pre-Assessment service. The post is based at Hexham General Hospital, with rotational opportunities.
This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 - Development of Professional Roles, whereby upon completion of an agreed set of competencies you may move onto the next pay band without the need for an application for a post at a higher level.
The successful candidate will start on a Band 5 and later move up to a band 6 once all training has been completed.
The key role of the successful candidate will be to undertake the Preassessment of elective patients awaiting surgery under general anaesthetic using specialised history taking and clinical skills following agreed protocols and procedures.
The post holder will also have excellent communication, organisational, decision making and PC skills with a good understanding of current Pre-Assessment issues. They will be able to manage their own case load and deputise in the absence of the clinical lead nurse

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care working as a member of the ward team under the direction of the Department Manager
To be responsible for the organising and co-ordination of nursing services in the ward/department in the absence of senior staff on a regular basis.

To be responsible for all nursing care standards and to maintain high clinical standards
To work autonomously following Trust and national guidelines to provide specialist nursing with a defined case load for patients having elective surgery under General Anaesthetic, including taking history, physical examination, ordering investigations and interpreting results, make
assessment of care needs and develop and assess programmers and standards of care. Working with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure safe and appropriate care. Provides specialist education and training to other members of the team
