Their full range of multimedia content reaches millions every year, in print and on digital and social.
Joining as the Sports Journalist you become a key part of the senior editorial team, primarily being a reporter, producing content for clients and covering a wide range of sport, you will also be an equally strong editor who enjoys running the news desk and directing a team of reporters.
You’ll need to know your up-and-under from your triple salchow, your LBW from your VAR and appreciate the difference between a hurdle and chase. Football is important but if it’s your first, last and everything this role is not for you – our client covered nearly 50 different sports in 2021.
The role will be a hybrid of newsroom-based and out at events. In 2022, for example, they had reporters at the Winter Olympics, Paralympics, Cricket World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Wimbledon, The Open and Rugby League World Cup, as well as at every Six Nations game and England football match.
To qualify… You should be a Sports Journalist / Senior Sports Reporter / Multimedia Sports Reporter / Journalist / Copywriter / Digital Journalist or similar with a CV that demonstrates:
  • You are a journalist with a full NCTJ diploma, including 100-words per-minute shorthand
  • You can produce well-written and absorbing sports content, ensuring copy is clean, clear, accurate and informative.
  • You are a strong sub-editor with an eye for accuracy and detail.
  • You have a wide sporting knowledge – an interest and knowledge of Olympic sports and/or horse racing would be a bonus.
  • You are a team player and a great all-rounder, with the ability to write and edit content to tight deadlines and have a strong knowledge of various content management systems.
  • Experience of working online and knowledge of SEO best practice, while understanding the role social media plays in selling and presenting content.
  • A positive attitude, who is unflappable under pressure and delivers work at a consistently high standard.
  • You take initiative and are willing to adapt, with the experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • An enthusiasm and a love of digital media and working across social media accounts, as well as a track record in print is essential.
A flexible approach to working hours and weekends is a necessity. Candidates need to have a full clean driving licence.
