About you
As our sports & engagement coach, you will be passionate about young people and education. You will use this in post to increase participation and engagement among the young learners. The primary aim of this post is to deliver support, mentoring and coaching sessions to registered students who are part of our Alternative Education Courses. The Engagement Coach will require delivery of activities including team-building games, building social interaction and playing a pivotal role in mentoring, supporting the learner's needs and aiding retention of learners on the course.

About the role
The role is a part time/casual contract during term time only and will require travel between our 3 sites in South Wales. Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly and Bridgend. This will be part time hours across Monday to Friday.
As our sports coach, you will be responsible for supporting our sports tutor in planning and delivering BTEC qualification Level 1 or 2 & BTEC L1 in works kills.
The role is pivotal in having an impact on young people from varying backgrounds and educational needs. The role requires you to become a mentor, supporting your learners throughout their journey and aiding retention on the courses.
Tasks
Key Responsibilities
- To ensure that all engagement sessions are planned and delivered to a high standard.
- To assist where necessary support those who need extra help by offering 1 to 1 guidance.
- To support the participation, retention and progression of learners in their sessions.
- Liaise with other staff members effectively.
- Supervise the young people at all times.
- To attend and engage in all relevant staff meetings, and maintain effective communication with staff, learners and other relevant organisations.
- To undertake training and CPD as necessary and relevant to the post.
- To be familiar with the LMP Code of Conduct and all operational, Health & Safety, Child Protection and Data Protection policies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The Sports and Education Coach must have a passion for working with young people from different educational backgrounds, and be committed to raising standards, be reliable, enthusiastic and motivated. They must possess excellent communication, teamwork, leadership, ICT and management skills and be able to build and sustain effective working relationships with staff.
Education and Experience
- DBS (essential)
- 3 or more years of experience working with a variety of age groups including 16 plus.
- Experience of delivering training and working in diverse community and/or sports settings.
- Experience of working with young people who are hard to engage with.
