We are looking for a Sport Trends Writer to join the sports desk at Liverpool Echo covering breaking stories, daily news, features and writing about the topics fans care about.
If you get a buzz from finding out what fans are really talking about and want to see your best ideas resonate with a large, highly-engaged audience, then this is the job for you.
We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

This role is home and hub based linked to our Liverpool Hub. We are therefore open to candidates based in and around Liverpool.

What will the role involve?
You will produce compelling content across our stable of clubs. You will spot opportunities and trends in the topics that fans are discussing on social media and online communities to create your content. You will cover major stories, breaking sport news and be a part of fan conversations in a fast paced digital newsroom environment.
You will maximise opportunities to engage with your audience through live blogging, podcasting, video journalism and social media posting. You will work with Editors to pitch your own story ideas and take a creative approach to covering transfer stories and scouting reports.You will use Buzzsumo, Trends and other audience tools to produce content with clear trending opportunities.This position will have some weekend/evening working so a flexible approach is required.
Who are we looking for?
You are an experienced NCTJ or equivalent qualified journalist with exceptional media law knowledge. You have a strong track record of telling stories accurately, that engage large audiences with a real passion for digital storytelling. You have encyclopaedic sport knowledge and you are social media savvy.
You can use SEO and analytics to see what topics are trending in sports and use this to boost your content. You have a keen eye for growth and development opportunities and you are keen to drive traffic to your content.
