Murray McIntosh is delighted to partner again with a leading trade association in London this time on the search for a Speechwriter.
The purpose of this Speechwriter role is to write major addresses, brief remarks, talking points and other verbal and written comms for the President, Trustee Board, Director-General, and senior team as required. This is a part-time position usually based in their central London office, though there is opportunity for flexible working.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage speechwriting needs, liaising with regions and others to ensure engaging, relevant content and alignment with Business Plan priorities.
- Provide advice on speeches and effective messaging to those requiring speeches
- Work effectively with the policy team and communications team so that speechwriting plans are joined up with wider communications strategies
- Liaise with the relevant Executive Assistants to understand schedules, expected length and topics for upcoming speaking engagements
- Engage with customers to understand style and preferences for speeches and other comms written in their voice
- Writing speeches and other comms as required
- Co-ordinating and supporting speechwriting with colleagues running events where they have asked for a senior representative to speak
- Writing and editing copy in the voice of senior representatives, such as forewords and quotes
- Ensuring the delivery of high quality and appropriate speeches and presentations for senior representatives
- Understand the organisations external positions and comms messaging so you can communicate key messages clearly, accurately and creatively
- Manage the process to receive feedback on speeches, sometimes from multiple internal stakeholders
- Manage a forward schedule of regular speeches
What we are looking for:
You will have significant experience of speechwriting for senior professionals and managing relationships with key stakeholders.
You will also have:
- Experience in creating presentations and other material for verbal delivery
- Strong storytelling skills in how to shape a compelling speech
- Strong, clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to tailor messages to the right audiences
- Ability to lead senior executives through the speechwriting process, providing sound counsel and guidance
- Ability to focus and manage time effectively under tight deadlines
- Good understanding of national politics and global current affairs
