Due to maternity leave within the service, a rare opportunity has arisen to join our highly acclaimed Tertiary-level airways service as a Senior specialist speech & language therapist.

You will join our friendly multi-professional team as we support patients with inducible laryngeal obstruction, and chronic cough. Based within the severe asthma service at Royal Preston hospital.

We are a friendly and innovative National referral service covering Lancashire & South Cumbria.

We are looking for a passionate and innovative therapist who seeks to develop and contribute to a high quality speech & language therapy service which embraces evidence based practice, outcomes and performance metrics. You will to continue to develop their portfolio in both advanced clinical practice and operational clinical leadership and this post is perfect for applicants who enjoy both of these aspects.

You will be supported by the Consultant SLT within the team, and the wider multi-professional team which consists of Consultant Physicians, Respiratory Physiotherapists, Specialist Asthma nurses and Clinical psychology.

This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to join a well-established team, where full support, access to regular supervision and CPD will be provided.

The speech and language therapy roles within the team are crucial to the delivery of assessments and interventions for patients with complex breathlessness and chronic cough.

Leading laryngoscopy assessment clinics to diagnose inducible laryngeal obstruction and chronic cough, as well as holding a caseload of patients with complex respiratory presentations.

Running SLT 1-stop clinics with respiratory physician colleagues to undertake same-day assessment and formulation of management plans.

Awareness of respiratory assessments to contribute to patient differential diagnosis.

Ideally, you will have competency in laryngoscopy, and have previous knowledge and experience of working with a complex airways caseload. However, in recognition of the wider workforce issues for these skills, for the right candidate, relevant training and support will be provided.

Regular active participation in local, regional and national MDT meetings, as well as providing therapy to patients in a group, and individual setting both virtually and face to face.

As we are a national referral centre, there are opportunities to liaise with SLT colleagues in the north west and further afield to help manage patients who live a distance from our centre.

Providing education and training to other professionals to enhance wider awareness of upper airway dysfunction and management, including the opportunity to present at national scientific conferences.

Our airways service is integrated into the north west severe asthma and chronic cough networks.
