Specialist Support Engineer
Location: Newbury (Blended home working)

Hours: Full time (37.5 hours per week – Mon to Fri)
Role purpose:
The Government Security Team is responsible for providing operational support to government and law enforcement agencies in order to meet our obligations under the Investigatory Powers Act. Technical solutions are at the heart of our ability to meet these obligations, and in the process, help fight serious crime and save lives. We offer an industry leading capability and need the best people to ensure we maintain this.
The Capability, Delivery & Support Team design, develop, implement, and support the complex and innovative systems that power our mission. As a Specialist support Engineer, you will be a key part of our design, implementation and assurance team bringing to bear your technical expertise, industry knowledge and people skills to ensure our solutions meet business, operational and external stakeholder needs.
- You will be accountable for managing the operational capabilities for our compliance platforms, ensuring our operational teams have the tools, systems and support required to meet our legislative obligations. You will also support the Domain Architects in designing solutions to meet new challenges and deliver new capabilities.
- Applicant must hold a driving licence and will be part of an on call team supporting the obligation capability 24/7 which may require driving to remote switch locations.
What will you be doing?
Lead on fault and issue management for production systems to ensure we maintain compliance- Provide technical support for operational changes affecting live Network platforms, new deployments, and changes to existing capabilities.
- Provide Technical Assistance to system users (external and Internal) to resolve operational issues
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with live service platforms to include network, data, application and databases
- Maintain awareness of overall UK network and architecture, assessing the impact of upcoming/proposed changes to Vodafone’s network. Review all new products and services to assess the impact to our obligation.
- Perform routine maintenance activities such as service failovers, system changes.
- Support Vendors undertaking IT Health Checks, penetration tests and patch management
- Assist in the development, implementation and management of overall service and support model maximising the effectiveness of internal and vendor teams
- Identify opportunities and drive changes to improve Operational effectiveness of compliance systems to ensure they are fit for purpose and suited to our customers’ needs.
- Support the Domain Architects and Solution Designers in developing new propositions and solutions to meet our Customers’ requirements under UK legislation
Who are we looking for?
Previous experience working in IPA compliance systems as well as experience of working with telecommunications data- An understanding of the Ericsson mobile network specifically the LI-IMS functionality.
- Enthusiastic and keen attitude to developing knowledge in existing and upcoming technologies.
- Understanding of both fixed line and broadband obligations.
- Ability to build and maintain strong ongoing relationships across a business with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of current relevant UK legislation (IPA, GDPR etc.)
- Security cleared to SC level and willing to undergo higher level clearance checks if required
- Driving license
- Support of system is required 24/7 so successful candidate will be required to be part of an on call rota
