Job description
We are looking for a HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist with a Specialist Portfolio in Haematology & Transfusion or equivalent to join us at the Chesterfield site of Derbyshire Pathology in a full-time, permanent role.
We have full UKAS ISO15189:2012 accreditation and we are also accredited with the IBMS as a training laboratory.
You would be based in the busy Haematology & Blood Transfusion sections of the laboratory helping to deliver technical excellence with enthusiasm, attention to detail and a professional, can-do attitude.

The successful candidate will be trained and competency assessed to join the full 24/7 shift rota.
The ability to work autonomously for long periods of time as part of the 24/7 shift rota is essential as is a flexible approach to working to ensure that the service needs are met.
The role involves but is not limited to the following:
- Processing and validation of patient specimens analysed on the Sysmex XN9000 line and CS5100 analysers
- Reporting on blood film morphology
- Processing, validation and cross-matching of transfusion samples using the IH1000 analysers and manual techniques.
- Appropriate referral of abnormal results to clinicians
- Monitoring of blood stocks and use of the Blood360 electronic tracking system
- Maintenance of equipment
- Service development inclusive of quality management activities and projects.
- Effective communication and team working
