Biomedical ScientistBand 5/6
Hours: 37.5hrs per week
Applicants are invited to apply for a permanent Biomedical Band 5/6 post, offering an exciting opportunity to work as a part of the Derbyshire Pathology network.
We provide a high quality Biochemistry service supporting the Acute Trust and Primary care. Core hours are 9:00 am – 5:30 pm but we also operate an out of hour’s 24/7/365 rotation in which you will be required to participate. We are in the process of moving to a shift rotation in the near future.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking person to work closely with laboratory staff in our busy but friendly, patient focused department. As a Biomedical Scientist in Pathology the post holder is responsible for the delegated tasks required for the delivery of a fit-for-purpose medical laboratory service analyzing and reporting on, blood, urine, faeces and other body materials to achieve the objectives of efficient and effective patient care, and effective resource management within the hospital.
The successful candidate will be expected to have technical knowledge matching this grade, and have the ability to work autonomously for long periods of time as part of the 24/7 shift rota is essential, as is a flexible approach to working to ensure that the service needs are met.
The role involves but is not limited to the following:
- Processing and validation of patient specimens analysed on the Cobas 8000 line, Phadia, Tosoh G11 and AI osmometer.
- Telephoning abnormal results in line with laboratory protocols
- Appropriate referral of abnormal results to clinicians
- Monitoring of reagent and consumable stocks
- Maintenance of equipment
- Service development inclusive of quality management activities and projects.
- Effective communication and team working
- Experience of using our current equipment and software. Q-Pulse and Meditech would be an advantage but full training will be given.
- To deputise for senior staff as required in their absence for short periods of time.
- To undertake specialist clinical technical work for any given area within the laboratory service.
- To assist senior staff within the Department maintain and develop the service in line with departmental objectives.
- To assist with the training, instruction and supervision of trainee BMSs and MLAs within the Department.
