Solution Architect
Salary: £60,000 to £72,000 per annum dependent on experience
Hours: 35 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Location: Hybrid working (1-2 days working from the Head Office and 3-4 days working from home)
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Solution Architect to join our Architecture team within our IT Service and Solutions Division. You will design solutions and create architectural documents that meet requirements for Projects, this includes artefacts such as roadmaps, high and low level designs.
You will ensure that the impacts of proposed changes to our IT estate are understood by all relevant colleagues. You will also have input into improving the solution architect practice as well as maintaining relevant baseline and future state views within the architecture repository.
To be successful in this role you’ll need to have a strong technical understanding but also be able to provide a high level of a business strategy focus and demonstrate commercial awareness. You need to have credibility to gain buy-in at all levels of the organisation, with an ability to articulate technical points in a way that is understood by non-technical stakeholders.
Key responsibilities are:
- Be able to perform impact analysis of change requests on technology and application landscapes.
- Takes responsibility for understanding, collecting and documenting data and information, delivering analysis and problem resolution. Identifies, evaluates and recommends solution options.
- Assess and communicate the business impact of technical options selected.
- Be able to define target and transitional states of solution design.
- Be able to model architecture views and maintain architecture repository using industry leading toolsets.
- Contribute to and maintain the common architectural repository and relevant architectural artefacts producing documentation of a high quality to enable decisions or drive delivery. Ensuring all decision points, building blocks, design principles, design rationale, roadmaps and all interdependencies are understood, documented and communicated, where appropriate.
- Acts as a trusted advisor providing specialist and technology expertise to stakeholders thereby facilitating the right decisions to be made or highlighting areas of risk where appropriate.
- Providing consultancy services to internal customers by offering '4th' line support, strategic guidance, and ensuring architecture principles are realised.
- Ensure that technical debt is a continual focus and not allowed to increase over time.
- Reviews the selection of appropriate solutions, technology, and integrations of multiple systems, either internally or through an RFI/RFP process.
- Demonstrate the ability to work across multiple domains, on numerous projects, against challenging timescales, and different stakeholder groups
The skills and experience required are:
- A good understanding of software / project lifecycle and methodologies.
- Cloud services (Azure & OCI preferred) and deployment models (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS).
- Good understanding of compute, storage, network technology and technology platforms.
- A good understanding of application integration techniques and patterns.
- High level understanding of all architecture domains such as Application, Data, Technology and Security
- Be able to work with wider teams and end users.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
- Passion for technology and problem solving through technical solutions.
