About the Team Lead role
Do you want to want to lead a team but still remain hands-on with the coding?
We are looking for an aspiring team lead who is ready to make the transition from coding as a full time role to building a career within technical management, based in our Glasgow office.
You will get to retain a solid technical understanding of systems and remain close to the solutions being developed. You will have equal focus on people, processes, delivery and the governance around these.

This is predominantly a front-end role.
Your tech stack includes the following: Java / Java Script / Typescript / AWS
Apache Solr knowledge would be a distinct advantage.
Main ResponsibilitiesOur Software Engineering Team Leads are passionate about developing people and nurturing them as engineers to build great things. You will lead a team of engineers working on building the platforms and systems that power compelling products for our audience. You will be responsible for ensuring your team are engaged and performing as effectively as possible.
These roles enable you to sharpen your technical acumen and improve leadership skills and industry knowledge that are highly valued in engineering management roles – quite possibly at a pace that will surprise you.
We'll support you in using your engineering expertise to lead a multi skilled engineering team, enabling the delivery of solutions to create value, drive efficiency and increase performance for our organisation. You’ll have end-to-end ownership of products across the entire stack.
We'll show you how drive technical excellence, ownership and self-organisation at team, divisional and group level, as well as act as coach and mentor to your team, helping them learn and become better in their craft.

We’d love to hear from you if you have some of the following skills:
- Experienced senior/lead software engineer who is ready to step up and lead a team
- Front-end skills preferable
- Demonstrable experience of working with JavaScript / Typescript
- Strong AWS experience
- Experience with unit, integration and end to end testing tools and practices (e.g. Jest, Cypress, Backstop)
- Experience interfacing with APIs, both REST and GraphQL
- Passionate about creating impact through empowering others and believe in supportive and humble leadership
- Self-driven, ambitious and results focused. You chart a path for others rather than follow one
- Passionate about technology and using it as a tool to provide great audience experiences

Contract type: continuing
Location: Glasgow, working from the office one/two days per week
