Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer Lead, your responsibility will be to help investigate, design, direct and implement a wide stack of systems required to develop the gameplay for Everwild. You will be heavily involved all aspects of engineering, starting with early prototyping of the end-to-end experience, right through to developing production code to release to our players. You will be working closely with all disciplines to ensure the long-term project goals are considered at all stages.
Alongside your engineering responsibilities, as a Lead you will also be managing a small but growing team which can include other managers. As a manager, you will be accountable for growing your team, supporting, and mentoring them on their career journey, and empowering them all to thrive.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Originate, implement, and iterate on systems to bring our game world to life.
- Work in conjunction with other disciplines to prioritise, align, and identify work streams.
- Identify and surface risks in the areas that are being worked on, autonomously highlighting solutions, and reacting accordingly.
- Manage a team of engineers working collaboratively towards shared goals.
- Continuously work to minimize technical debt and maintenance hazards.
- Devote time to personal improvement for both you and your team to further our game development and programming knowledge.
- Champion quality in our development process, demonstrating our values and taking an active role in improvement of engineering at Rare.
Qualifications
- Prior experience of working in an engineering leadership role within the games industry.
- Show us that you have a solid grounding in Computer Science theory and C++ development, and have a genuine enthusiasm for the subject.
- Be empathetic and passionate about a healthy work culture.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
- Deep technical understanding of working with the Unreal Engine 4 systems in a commercial context.
- Experience working within a large scale codebase on Multiplayer titles.
