Applications are invited for a CNC machinist vacancy within the University of Oxford’s Department of Physics.
The post is full time and permanent.

The successful candidate will join the busy Mechanical Workshop Team within one of the largest departments in the University, giving the opportunity to work on and contribute to world-leading high-profile scientific projects.
The role will require you to manufacture parts for scientific instruments. Also the role includes the fitting and assembly of components, sub-assemblies and complete equipment to appropriate precision and other standards, being able to effectively interpret engineering drawings and quickly identifying inconsistencies is a required essential skill. You will liaise and advise with academic, research support and other staff on the mechanical production aspects involved in their research or other activities. A key aspect of the role is the efficient and safe operation of the full range of standard mechanical workshop machines and other processes.
Additional duties will include installation, modification and maintenance of apparatus and equipment at sites away from Oxford both within the UK and overseas.
Applicants should preferably hold a BTEC Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Mechanical or Production Engineering or an equivalent qualification. Lower qualifications would be considered if offset by experience significantly greater than the minimum specified above.
Previous experience in the field of high technology research and development and CNC machining is essential.
The successful candidates will have previous experience of manufacturing components using CNC and standard machines and fitting them into assemblies and complete pieces of equipment required for research.
