Job description
Provides technical leadership on complex projects and new technology to meet business needs throughout VSP Global. Staff Software Engineer is responsible for all technical aspects of large complex projects and is recognized as a technical expert within GTS.
Generate the cleanest design and development plans using new and current applicable technology and techniques.
Provide expert code to accomplish the most complex and ambiguous business and technology needs.
Achieve competitive advantage for the business via breakthrough technology contribution to further enhance multi–year roadmaps.
Provide technical leadership throughout technical areas, especially during coding and project progression.
Establish architectural guidelines and standards; contribute to architectural planning; provide expert-level analyses as needed for technology licensing and procurement activities.
Review, contribute to and approve others’ systems designs to accomplish the best possible outcomes. Produce solutions that greatly simplify or change the business in significant ways.
Lead and mentor Software Engineers of all levels to allow for skill/knowledge development through advice, coaching, and training opportunities; utilize expert technical knowledge to mentor technology workers outside of software engineering areas as necessary.
Utilize unique expert technical knowledge to contribute to GTS system architecture, future technological vision, and technical due diligence for Mergers & Acquisitions.
Drive profound change; Introduce applicable technology and innovative or groundbreaking engineering practices for positive impact throughout the organization in alignment with VSP goals, to expand organization goals, and for creative solutions.
Job Specifications
Typically has the following skills or abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
Minimum 8 years of programming experience.
Expert-level programming experience in one or more current programming languages.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Expert experience designing, programming, and implementing large information systems.
Demonstrates highly developed expert knowledge of the application of computer science, and engineering of technology, specifically with application that addresses future technologies.
Demonstrated ability to direct/coordinate activity across functional areas/teams as necessary for optimal outcomes.
