Job description
“We are on a mission: to transform the future of online grocery through cutting-edge technology innovation.”
Ocado Technology is putting the world’s retailers online using advanced artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, big data, the cloud, microservices, IoT and much much more.
We are a fast-growing company: today we have colleagues in 7 development centre across the UK and Europe, with offices open in London, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City (UK), Krakow, Wroclaw (Poland), Sofia (Bulgaria) and Barcelona (Spain), with a satellite office in Stockholm (Sweden)!
Our Culture:
We champion a value-led culture to get our teams working at their very best and to help create a collaborative working environment that our people love.
Core values of Trust, Autonomy, Craftsmanship, Collaboration and Learn Fast help drive our innovative culture. But don’t just take our word for it, have a look at what our people are saying about us on Glassdoor.
What is the Department You Would Join?
Ocado Technology is building technology to manage all aspects of our partners’ retail services from highly automated warehouses to efficient logistics to websites or - in the case of this department in London - building the platform that powers super-smart Supply Chain management.
What does that actually mean?
A retailer's reputation stands - and falls - upon trust: a customer's order needs to arrive on time and contain the products they asked for, and the Supply Chain department is key to ensuring that what is promised to customers can actually be delivered. We balance the availability of products with maintaining the minimal amount of stock in a warehouse with the need to minimise the amount of grocery produce that is not bought & is thrown away. We predict what customers will want via forecasting customer demand, and we are progressing plans to address the shift in the marketplace to deliver groceries within minutes.
What Would You Do?
We’re looking for talented, curious and passionate software engineers to help us build these complex new solutions that will deliver a radical new approach to Supply Chain management.
You will join the Availability and Stock Management team working on fascinating, challenging & complex problems. We calculate the optimal real-time availability of products that customers can order, based on a range of changing inputs from around the platform. You will be working with adaptive algorithms, highly optimised architecture and evolving feature opportunities. We work on a range of Java backend microservices deployed to AWS, as well as a frontend application (TypeScript, React).
This is a high-profile team with a mission at the heart of the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP), so if you’re looking for an opportunity to have a high-impact upon real customers, then look no further and apply below!
A few more specifics - you will:
- Be part of a team of: 5-6 engineers, a Team Lead and a Product Manager.
- Contribute to the discovery and implementation of features all the way from conception through to production.
- Work with the team on continuous improvement of the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Participate in an out of hours support rota where agreed.
We have a hybrid working policy. The team is working from the office on Wednesdays and optionally on Thursdays.
What Are We Looking For?
- Someone who has proven commercial Software Development Background with a focus on successfully delivering great products.
- Solid Java skills (ideally Java 8+)
- People who understand the value of continuous integration, continuous delivery and who strive for a high level of automation.
- People curious about problem solving, able and willing to work with limited information, ambiguity, and uncertainty, knowing the right questions to ask.
- Above all - we love to find people who can make a positive impact on the open, supportive, and creative culture of the team and the company.
However, the above list is not set in stone. If you enjoy:
- Experimentation - learning fast through trying and failing
- Problem solving through lateral thinking, risk-taking and creativity
- Working collaboratively with others to address difficult challenges
…then please get in touch!
