Job description
This is an exciting opportunity to develop analytical and simulation applications used by our consultants and our international clients in the emergency services sector. At ORH our software developers are passionate about creating sophisticated software that allows users to tackle the complexity of data and processes in emergency services to help our clients to work more efficiently and effectively.
You will join a small team of developers who enjoy the freedom to take advantage of new ideas and technologies. You will be involved with developing applications that include a cloud-based tool for mapping live emergency incident and vehicle locations, and desktop-based simulation models.
Day-to-day, this will consist of a mixture of:
· Independent work to develop, test, and deploy cloud and desktop applications.
· Collaboration with other members of the development team to plan work and share ideas.
· Working closely with users of the models to provide support.
While our work is important, the atmosphere is relaxed, open and friendly, with everyone pulling together and working towards the same goals. We are a collaborative, intelligent and friendly team in an excellent working environment.
The role is based at our offices in Reading. We provide training, support and career development opportunities. We value innovation and encourage employees to follow their own interests in learning and exploring new technologies and techniques.
We offer a starting salary of £26,000 to £33,000, a generous pension, plus a bonus programme. Other benefits include substantial annual leave and leave purchase scheme, life insurance, and opportunities for flexibility in working hours and location
You should have a degree in computer science or another numerate subject and experience with a mainstream general-purpose language (such as C#, Java, C++). Some familiarity with cloud platforms (such as AWS or Azure) would be an advantage.
You will develop and deploy web applications on AWS. These include .Net Razor Pages applications and SPAs written with Javascript/Angular/Vue. Our simulation models are written in C# and we make use of various other languages and frameworks when they fit our needs, including SQL, C++, Python and NodeJS. We value strong development and problem-solving skills over direct experience in these technologies and will provide support and guidance for you to learn these technologies where needed.
Please provide a cover letter in addition to your CV outlining how you are suitable for this role.
