Job description

"It is a strong practice… the offering is exceptionally good "Chambers UK

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Paralegal or Legal Executive to join our Real Estate department and support our sector teams in delivering residential Real Estate work.

This is a permanent, full-time role based in our Bristol office.

The practice

Our real estate team has a strong reputation for providing commercial advice to clients on everything from investment acquisitions and disposals and portfolio and asset management, forward funding and forward commitments, to complex mixed-use developments. Our team advises across all our clients' entire investment patterns including build to rent, student accommodation, logistics and energy.

We are distinguished from our competitors by our market-leading practices in a number of prominent specialist areas. These include: our residential development practice and build to rent offering, where we are recognised national leaders; energy, in particular major renewables projects run by leading names in the sector such as Foresight and Oxford Capital Partners; student accommodation, where we have advised on significant deals for Global Student Accommodation Limited and Campus Living Villages; and retail, where our recent track record includes appointment to the prestigious Homebase/Bunnings panel and on-going work for Marks and Spencer. In addition, we have a reputation as a leader in acting for UK and overseas institutions as major investors in UK real estate.

The team

The real estate is made up of 75 lawyers in total including 22 Partners in the UK. The Residential Development practice is a key part of the Real Estate team and has 8 Partners and a large team specialising in this area including our dedicated site set-up and plots administration and conveyancing teams.

The Role

You will provide a wide range of services to the Residential Development practice including but not exclusively:

  • Acting for a broad spectrum of house-builder clients (in fact, we act for 8 of the UK's top 10 house-builders) in respect of all matters ancillary to large-scale and often complex residential developments.
  • Dealing with golden brick completions and ancillary work for our house builder and registered provider clients.
  • Dealing with various registry applications.
  • Dealing with asset management issues connected with large-scale residential development schemes including leases, licences, transfers, deeds of variations and the drafting and negotiation of these documents.
  • Dealing with deeds of easement, wayleaves, infrastructure agreements (e.g. section 38/278 and section 104 agreements), substation transfers and leases, transfers of residual land, deeds of covenant and various other matters for our house-builder clients and the drafting and negotiation of the same.
  • Assisting with site set-up matters connected with large-scale residential developments.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will:

  • Have evidence of experience across a range of Real Estate matters in a similar role (preferably with a focus on residential development);
  • Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills;
  • Be technically minded, enjoy variety and have the ability to prioritise and successfully manage multiple matters;
  • Show an enthusiasm for and the ability to present technical legal issues in a clear, approachable and professional way;
  • Demonstrate a client-orientated approach, both internally and externally;
  • Have the ability to think laterally and to develop ideas in relation to business opportunities and training.

Salary and benefits

We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits.
