Support and Safeguarding Team East, is located in Devizes; a rural market town in Wiltshire with surrounding quaint villages and towns.
The team works a patch-based model, as a Social Worker you will be allocated families based on your experience and from your chosen patch. Social workers will work with the most vulnerable children in Wiltshire, including pre-birth up to the age of 18 years.
Our areas include;
- Tidworth and Ludgershall
- Devizes and Pewsey
- Marlborough and Calne

We work flexibly and Social Workers can work from our libraries and leisure centres across the county, our office in Devizes or County Hall, Trowbridge or Bourne Hill, Salisbury as much as they need to. We promote face to face interactive team meetings every month to include opportunities to share practice and dedicated CPD time each month.
Support and Safeguarding teams promote a ‘one journey, one worker’ ethos, which means we recognise that children and families benefit from relationship-based practice by having the same worker.
You will be completing the following tasks:
- Single assessments
- Child in Need planning and reviews
- Child protection processes
- Visits to children and families
- Intervention and direct work with children
- Pre-proceedings and care proceedings processes
About the team
We are a large team, that consists of ASYEs and experienced social workers. The support side of our team consists of Family Keyworkers who are supervised by seniors and an Assistant Team Manager. Our Family Keyworkers have areas of expertise and provide co-working to children open to social workers, they also work with children and families who need early help support. In the East we benefit from a specialist domestic abuse worker who delivers direct work to families where domestic abuse is a concern.
The role requires social workers to liaise with professionals and our multi-agency partners, such as working closely with the police, paediatricians and named nurses in our 3 local hospitals, community mental health teams (Devizes based), midwifery, education settings, children’s centres, fear-less, army welfare and Turning point

About you
We are looking for qualified social workers who are registered with Social Work England. We will also accept applications from candidates who are wishing to Return to Social Work and offer a programme to support you.
Due to the rural nature of Wiltshire, you will have a full driving licence and access to a car.
The role requires social workers to be independent in their organisation and diary management, showing a level of autonomy and accountability. Good written communication and assessment and report writing skills are essential.
You will be someone who embraces a learning-culture and open to developing new skills and knowledge. You will take responsibility for your professional development and the development of others.
You will have experience of direct work with children, young people and families. You will show a passion for capturing the voice of our children and families and will produce electronic records to reflect this.
