Job description
We are looking for a Social Media Executive who shares our love of BBC Radio, music, and pop culture to join a creative team using social media to help young fans discover live radio, music and podcasts. This role sits in the BBC radio’s central social media team that runs accounts, commissions video, memes and moments, and edits and optimises content for channels that reach millions every week.
Main ResponsibilitiesYour challenge will be to create fun, authentic and engaging content for our channels that bring our audio output to life, give young fans access to some of the biggest stars and broadcasters in the world, and amplifies some of the most exciting music and radio moments of the year.
You will work alongside a team of social media managers and executives, digital production teams and our DJs and presenters. Your job will be to support huge social campaigns, react quickly to memes and trending moments, devise brilliant thumb stopping formats and ideas that our audiences will love, laugh with or be thrilled by.
Within this role you should expect to work on any of our Pop Radio brands – Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2, 6 Music and Asian Network – but the role will have a Radio 1 focus.’ To ‘Within this role you should expect to work on any of our Pop Radio brands – Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2, 6 Music and Asian Network – but the role will have a Radio 1 and 6 Music focus.
Are you the right candidate?You will need to demonstrate the following:
- A passion for audio, our radio programmes and DJs, and love music from multiple genres – from Pop to Dance to Alternative
- A track record at creating content that engages with young audiences. We will ask you to share links and examples as part of your application.
- Proven experience of working with a youth publisher, radio broadcaster or developing your own personal brand/account
- Strong video and image editing skills – must be able to work within the Adobe Creative Suite, be a mobile filming expert and use a variety of apps, filters and sound options to create world class, thumb stopping social formats for platforms such as TikTok or Reels or Shorts.
- Familiarity with social media analytics and how to use them to inform content decisions and choices
- Confident at communicating your ideas, and persuading teams to collaborate at all levels whether they are DJs, artists and guests visiting our stations or production teams
