Stadler Rail Service UK Limited (SRS UK) is a subsidiary of Stadler Rail, Switzerland. Stadler is establishing a reputation as a competitive provider of train maintenance services and has seen a number of successes since emerging in the UK in 2016.

In the next few years over 200 new Stadler trains will be joining the UK rail network. Our current depot locations are Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, Newcastle and Norwich offering a wide scope of opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in the UK Rail Industry.

The role of the Site Manager involves overseeing warranty and technical teams, ensuring contractual obligations, safety, and reliability on a 24/7 basis. You will also lead MSA matters, plan resources for on-site activities, and prioritise work while maintaining high standards of safety and product quality. Your leadership and management skills will drive professional production and a culture of safety. Always keeping the client and end-user in mind, you will contribute to the Company's KPIs and values.

Your duties will include:

· Managing technical staff, depot support, materials supply and planning team to ensure effective and efficient support to the customer that maintains:

Ø units

Ø support type testing and fault-free running

Ø Maintenance of units

Ø depot equipment

· Achieving the targets set by the contract and Stadler & consortium management and industry standards

· Where targets are not fully achieved, reasons are analysed and actions are put in place to prevent generic reoccurrence

· Focus the team to adhere to quality, standards and safety procedures

· Support and develop the team through a combination of coaching, mentoring and performance management

· Build and maintain good relationships with colleagues and the customer

· Lead by example

· Responsible for communicating the vision and implementing and maintaining the policy of SRSUK & the consortium

· Contract interface for on-site activities, performance and warranty

· Interface with customer depot manager

· Change Management of the vehicles

· Repairs defects coming from customer acceptance

· Execution of maintenance and services on the contract, including warranty and if necessary repairs of vehicles

· Collaborative working with the STAR engineering/ project management teams, SRS UK purchasing teams and other stakeholders that (indirectly) support the MSA & warranty

· Deliver an efficient and effective service, focused on the customer

· Identify and coach short-term and long-term replacements (Succession Planning) for key roles within the function

· Manage absenteeism per employee per annum managed in accordance with business targets

· Understanding and experience with production techniques and process

· Provide on-call support

· There will be a requirement for individuals to be flexible with their hours of work depending on business needs e.g. night shift/ weekend work if appropriate.

What do we require of you?

Essential

· ​​Qualification or equivalent experience in a technical and managerial environment

· ​Must be able to prove extensive knowledge of rolling stock maintenance

· ​Minimum 5 years of experience in managing people

· ​Proven experience in leading teams and planning and engaging with stakeholders

· ​Ability to work in a demanding environment and make decisions for critical deadlines

· ​Can demonstrate a customer driven attitude focused on quality

· ​Flexible, and willing to support colleagues​

· Proven experience in working in a changing environment and steering that change

· Proven ability to understand complex production designs, reports, recommendations, and investigations that may have an impact on the safe and cost-effective production operation and client operation

· Demonstrated ability to lead complex, difficult and political discussions with key stakeholders, including with internal functional areas of the business, as well as external agencies

· Demonstrated ability to inform, negotiate and persuade all levels of a business from MD to production Operatives and Technical persons.

· Proven capability to establish, lead, coach and motivate a multi-skilled team to deliver production and technical best practice methodologies, with long term human resource plans developed

· Financial and budget management skills.

· Ability to understand and interpret legislation and standards relating to people & product health and safety, production, technical and general transport matter

· Risk identification, assessment, mitigating and documenting all manner of risks to demonstrate compliance with relevant legislation and become the basis of safe systems of work.

· Demonstrate a passion for continual improvement, people development, operational excellence and end user experience

· good level of IT skills including Microsoft packages

Desirable

· Experience in the service provision of modern rail vehicles

· Proven extensive experience in a large engineering environment with a focus on production, through-life support

· Knowledge of maintenance activities with a large multi-disciplined transport fleet.

· Experience in an operational transport and production environment

· Knowledge and experience in advanced Lean, Kaizen, 5S and other modern production techniques

· Knowledge and experience in conducting and leading complex root cause investigations

· Strong knowledge, experience and understanding of risk and safety in the workplace, within a transport environment and from a production perspective

· Experience in managing a department, team and facility in a production/project setting

· Clear understanding of the principles of production techniques and processes and the interaction between the functions across the business

· Proven experience in identifying, assessing and mitigating all manner of risks and documenting risk registers to demonstrate compliance and become the basis of safe systems of work.

· Formal education at least to HNC or equivalent standard in an appropriate subject matter
