JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Community Shop and Post Office Manager
Directly Responsible to: Health and Wellbeing Lead
Hours: 37.5 Hours week
Salary: £26,000 per annum
Primary Purpose of the Job:
Operating within Cranhill Development Trust, The Cabin Shop is a retailer of fresh food, a PayPoint outlet and a Local Post Office rolled into one. We provide vital products and services such as essential groceries and daily banking to the local community.
You will work as part of a small dynamic team where you will be expected to support, train and inspire your colleagues and volunteers to provide a high quality of customer service.
Your role is to ensure the smooth daily running of the shop and drive the growth of this community owned business. You will have an important role in helping achieve our sales targets and ensure our shop is a successful long-term business.
You will have experience in a retail environment and be able to demonstrate successful business growth within a retail setting. You will be committed to promoting the shop, while bringing new and exciting ideas to this developing community business.
Whilst experience of working in a Post Office would be advantageous, extensive training will be provided to the successful candidate, so no experience is necessary.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the shop.
- Staff and volunteer line management responsibilities.
- Implement new business strategies and aim to exceed sales targets.
- Develop and implement seasonal marketing campaigns, presentation and shop merchandising
- Maintain administrative and financial administration systems and procedures including invoice management (using SAGE).
- Sales reporting and stock control to maximise sales and minimise risk.
- Primary responsibility for weekly orders from a variety of suppliers.
- Establish and maintain accurate records for ordering, stock control and pricing.
- Creation of performance reports for the Board of Trustees.
- Ensure full regulatory compliance and keep abreast of regulatory changes particularly health and safety.
- Ensure the shop is a welcoming and friendly environment for customers, staff and volunteers.
- Signpost and refer customers to other CDT services.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties that may be required.

Person Specification:
Essential
- Retail experience at supervisory level or above
- A willingness to undergo extensive training (including Post Office training)
- Knowledge of ordering, stock control and stock rotation
- Ability to develop a positive customer experience
- Strong numeracy and literacy skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable
- Food Hygiene Certificate
- A full clean driver's licence
- An understanding of Post Office products and services
- Knowledge of marketing and familiarity with the use of social media
- Knowledge of developing and maintaining shop procedures and practices
- Experience using administrative or financial admin systems
