About the Role
Our data science team is highly innovative, and for us, innovation matters. As a Senior Machine Learning Scientist, you will be working in a cross-functional, highly diverse platform and will be creating new and improving internal and external facing data products.
At ASOS, as an online only retailer, we have unique datasets, transactions and click streams for millions of customers and photos, videos, and text descriptions of hundreds of thousands of products.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will be driving the implementation and scale-up of algorithms for measurable impact across the business. You will set up and conduct large-scale experiments to test hypotheses and drive product development.
You will be keeping up to date with relevant state-of-the-art research, taking part in reading groups alongside other scientists, with the opportunity to publish novel prototypes for the business at top conferences.
You will be continually developing and improving our code and technology, taking an active role in the conception of brand-new features for our millions of global customers. You will take part in regular Tech Develops days to learn new things, take part in internal and external hackathons, and share your knowledge and help drive improvements in engineering.
You will be mentoring and coaching junior members of the team, supporting their technical progress. As well as supporting our culture by championing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategies.
Who We’d Like to Meet
You are an experienced machine learning scientist, with experience in using machine learning methods to solve problems involving complex data, for example image, click streams, text, video, speech, and time.
Ideally, you will have some knowledge of the dynamic retail pricing optimization domain, applied experience with reinforcement learning, and other relevant applied ML applications.
You will have some knowledge or experience of working in retail, marketing, or the ecommerce industry.
You thrive in working in a cross-functional platform, including scientists, engineers, and non-technical stakeholders. You are approachable, collaborative and you actively nurture a diverse and inclusive workplace.
You are comfortable working in a Python data science tech stack, for example pandas, NumPy, Dask, scikit-learn, Keras, PySpark, PyTorch. You also have experience accessing and combing data from multiple sources and building data pipelines, including a good knowledge of SQL.
You understand software development lifecycles and engineering practices, alongside ML. You have a solid understanding of statistics, covering hypothesis testing, regressions, random variables, and inference.
You will be comfortable providing technical leadership, mentoring, and coaching to a motivated development team. You will contribute to wider engineering initiatives across ASOS.
