Reports to the Manager, IROP Recovery
Overview of the Role:
The Operations Shift Manager (OSM) role is responsible for ‘day of’ planning, decision making and internal OCC communication, which contribute to WestJet’s operational metrics and targets. The OSM is responsible for coordinating with operational groups, incorporating their input in decision making, and effectively communicating decisions to the OCC teams. Each OSM shall strive towards creating connections, listening actively and communicating opening to create a remarkable experience in all interactions with WestJetters, WestJet partners and ultimately, our guests.
Responsibilities:
Manage the safe, on-time airline performance within the day-of operational window by considering all operational factors including: flight crew resources, weather, air traffic control, airport restrictions, fleet planning, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, route restrictions, guest recovery, and guest experience.
- Consult with OCC teams to make the best operational decisions and communicate operational decisions to the applicable OCC groups;
- Communicate key pieces of information to Lead Duty Dispatch including AOG Aircraft and tail swaps D180;
- Develop and manage IROP contingencies with input from Lead Duty Dispatch, Crew Scheduling, Maintenance, Load Control, Lead IROP Recovery & Lead Operations Coordinator;
- Support previous day operational metric reviews and Daily Operational calls;
- Mitigate APPR impacts to the operation;
- Implement significant IROP recovery plans created by the Network Duty Manager;
- Consult with Airport Duty Managers regarding local airport constraints and IROP recovery capabilities;
- Escalate performance management concerns to leadership teams as appropriate;
- Maintain oversight and be the formal decision maker for operational requirements for aircraft routing (tail swaps) and guest holds;
- Build extra sections in MCP/Sabre Schedule change as required;
- As one of the primary operational leaders, the OSM will demonstrate and provide leadership (as defined by WestJet leadership behaviors) to all groups in the OCC;
- Escalate operational challenges and issues, which require additional support, to the Network Duty Manager;
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager, IROP Recovery.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Advanced skills with Sabre and OCC software applications are required;
- Commercial Operational experience in roles within an Operations Control environment is an asset;
- Experience in a Flight Dispatch role or related training from an accredited institution is an asset;
- Experience with Sabre Interact/Schedule Change is an asset;
- Strong analytical, problem solving, decision making, organization and communications skills;
- High degree of motivation and commitment to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and changing environment.
