Cambian Somerset School is an independent secondary day special school supporting young people with autism located in Somerset, very close to Taunton. The school is part of the Cambian Group, an organisation with over 47 specialist schools across the country.
We have a fantastic opportunity for an innovative and enthusiastic PE teacher to join our fantastic school and complement our very committed and highly supportive team. Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a teacher who will be enthusiastic, flexible and determined who will share our values and is looking to develop their career.
Ideally, we are looking for a qualified teacher however, we will consider applicants who are experienced and have ambition and desire to grow. Experience working within a SEMH/SEN specialist provision is desirable however we will consider applicants who have not worked within this field.
Training and development will be provided for the successful candidate in line with the identified needs of the school, the skills of the individual and their prospective career progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and teach well structured lessons
- Manage classes effectively, using approaches which are appropriate to students’ needs to motivate them.
- Manage student anxiety effectively to ensure an enjoyable and safe working environment
- Know and understand how to assess the relevant subject and curriculum areas you teach.
Essential Criteria
- Experience teaching within a specialist or mainstream setting is desirable.
- A dedicated work ethic to ensure the needs of all students
- Is passionate about making learning effective and enjoyable
- Qualified in subject specialism
- DBS cleared and satisfactory references
- Ability to work on own initiative.

This position is due to commence as soon as possible – subject to approved reference/DBS checks. Cambian is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
