TT Electronics’ Bedlington facility north of Newcastle upon Tyne is the home of two TT Electronics divisions; Sensors & Specialist Components and Power Electronics. Sensors & Specialist Components are leaders in high reliability, high performance and engineered electronic components. Power Electronics provide custom power solutions for safety-critical applications in harsh environments. The team in Bedlington specialises in microcircuit production for the aerospace and defence industries.

The main purpose of this role is to support the continuous improvement of the manufacturing processes, associated systems and procedures to ensure the sustainability of the site measured on quality, efficiency, and volume targets.
This is part of a team providing leadership and direction to Team Leaders and have overall responsibility for up to ?? people on the shift.
You will work with the Manufacturing and Engineering functions to meet and better production targets, particularly plant output, plant operations, product quality, product costs and department expenditure.
Main Duties
To develop a culture of continuous improvement within the department- Challenge current practices and processes in order to make improvements
- Use problem solving techniques to resolve issues and implement improvements
- Liaise with engineering on process quality, trouble shooting, maintenance, and improvements
- Daily housekeeping walk through and corrective measures activated
- Internal area focus on Safety, productivity and quality via good teamwork.
- Implement and audits LEAN manufacturing initiatives.
- Monitor weekly/daily measures and improve work processes.
- Enable the shift to keep the production running in the most efficient operating conditions.
- Actively work to reduce costs.
- Oversee Team Leader’s performance, review operator performance and handle disciplinary matters when required.
- Coach Team Leader’s to drive and improve performance of their teams.
- Lead daily production planning meeting and ensures good shift communication and handover to next team.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment towards Safety and Quality
Skills & Knowledge
Technical knowledge/understanding of work carried out on site.
- Knowledge of Quality Standards/Quality Focussed
- Leadership/Supervisory experience
- Understanding of H&S requirements
- Ability to coach and train others
Key Experience Required:
Proven track record of achievement within a manufacturing environment, preferably with an electronic background.
People Management
Manage and motivate a shift team. Set and monitor targets for all team members to achieve performance and financial KPIs of the shift- Recruit and manage staff via coaching, annual appraisal, mentoring, training and leadership-by-example, including direct responsibility for a named group of staff.
- Responsible for the core training/competency assessment requirements of all reports including development of an annual training plan and measuring performance against this on weekly basis. Ensure all training is documented.
- Manage attendance via the company absence procedure. Ensure all return-to-work interviews are completed on the first day. Document all discussions and correspondence in relation to absence
- Manage and record holidays and overtime to ensure correct manning whilst achieving the financial budget for the shift
Safety, Quality and Environment
Ensure safe operating practices, policies and procedures are adhered to- Personally demonstrate correct safety behaviours
- Undertake accident and Near Miss Investigations including risk assessments
- Participate in shift safety, quality and 5s audits, ensuring all non-conformances are documented and take responsibility for completing action plans as a result
- Ensure all WIP, quarantined material and parts and products for despatch are clearly identifiable and stored in the correct locations
- Ensure all non- conforming products are held through the QC procedure, follow through to conclusion
Operations Management
Control operational KPI’s within budget- Ensure efficient operation and control of all production in your area
- Ensure all downtimes are recorded and preventative actions put in place
- Monitor machine and operator performance
- Manage stock and WIP to a min/max levels
- Communication of results, both verbal through toolbox talks and visual against KPIs to all staff on a shift and weekly basis
- Produce a monthly report of performance against plan / KPIs for your shift/area. This must include performance against an improvement plan
- Facilitate daily board meetings
Continuous Improvement
Deliver continuous improvement projects from idea generation to completion- Track effect of improvement project and report monthly on progress
- Ensure improvements made on other shifts are implemented once agreed
- Responsible for achieving personal development objectives
Communication
Actively support site wide briefings- As part of the shift team working liaise closely with colleagues within and across shift regarding production matters
- Work closely with support functions (HR, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain and Finance) ensure support required is communicated and all outstanding issues resolved
- Communicate with Maintenance and Engineering to ensure planned maintenance and production priorities are considered
- Meet with all shift employees at start and end of shift to ensure priorities are communicated
- Ensure handover information/performance is collated at the end of each shift and communicated to the following Shift Manager
