Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Office Services Clerk. This skilled position serves as the Office Services Clerk for the Department of Labor. An Office Services Clerk is the full performance level of work performing diverse clerical duties which support agency operations and require the review, verification and interpretation of information in order to make determinations and resolve problems in accordance with policies, regulations and laws applicable to agency programs.

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to process license applications for the issuance of the licenses for 25 regulatory Boards and Commissions within the divisions of the Occupational and Professional licensing. This position is also responsible for answering consumer inquiries through the Customer Service Center by providing accurate information regarding the Board and Commissions applications and complaint status, and related information in a professional, courteous and timely manner.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

§ Process original licensing applications for manual deposit by verifying application are complete and accurate; conduct computer research for trade name validation and proper registration within SDAT, verify compliance with insurance and other licensing requirements, and verify that the correct fees are applied to each application.

§ Verify and audit all application and miscellaneous fees submitted by Boards and Commission daily in order to ensure that the auditing requirements of the legislative auditors are met.

§ Contact applicants by telephone in order to assist them with incomplete, inaccurate or incorrect license applications; respond to inquiries from applicants about the status of their licensing application.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing clerical duties.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty semester credit hours for one year of experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the requires experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
