The Sun’s multi-award-winning Audience department sits at the heart of our newsroom, with our talented journalists publishing the best coverage of news, sport, TV and showbiz, lifestyle and family value. Our hugely successful SEO team sits at the core of our publishing operation and is constantly evolving, driving search traffic, growing new audiences, and building engagement and loyalty with our readers.
The role:
The Sun is looking for a talented individual to help lead the development of The Sun’s SEO strategy.
The Senior SEO editor will work on a rota so some evenings (usually four per month) and weekends (usually once a month) are essential to this rewarding role.
Day to day you will:
Help grow organic search, Discover and Google News on all four of The Sun’s domains - thesun.co.uk / the-sun.com / thescottishsun.co.uk / thesun.ie
Lead The Sun’s trending content output
Lead The Sun’s SEO breaking news and live blog strategy
Own the SEO strategy for specific sections on The Sun for example Travel or Sport
Identify search trends and communicate them to the newsroom
Be confident with a range of SEO tools (for example SEMRush and News Dashboard)
Analyse and report back to the newsroom on SEO successes and failures
Perform competitor analysis and identify opportunities to improve and overtake in key markets
Monitor algorithmic changes and developments and help recommend actions to relevant teams
Communicate with the newsroom on big breaking stories
Be a go-to person for journalists and reporters seeking SEO advice
What we are looking for from you:
Editorial background with experience in a digital publishing environment is a must
A solid understanding of editorial SEO including Google Discover, Google News and organic search
Some technical SEO knowledge would be useful
