Senior UI Designer London, England

Guardian News & Media
Full Time London, England 59500 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Guardian Media Group is a global news organisation attracting over 200 million global unique browsers (1.1 billion page views), each month. With no shareholders or billionaire owner, our work is free from political and commercial influence. This enables us to deliver ground breaking independent journalism and award-winning digital products that are open for all.

The Guardian app is the best way to experience our journalism; we work to provide our most-engaged readers with the best, personalised, premium experience. It’s an exciting time to join us, and you’ll play a fundamental role in shaping our app experience’s visual language, and make informed decisions based on digital design principles.

The Guardian is looking for a Senior User Interface Designer to join our native apps experience team.

Key responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, UX designers, product managers and engineers to create meaningful, accessible designs
  • Facilitate workshops with senior technical and editorial stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the practice lead to help make our digital products more accessible and open to global audiences - while adhering to the Guardian’s broader business and editorial needs

Skills and experience

(No one is the finished article and there should be learning in every role you do. However, some experience in the following is important)

  • A minimum of 5 years experience working with native apps or mobile web
  • A strong portfolio of work demonstrating your principles, methodologies and approaches
  • Have experience in agile and lean methodologies
  • You are able to drive positive impact by setting clear, measurable objectives
  • Be comfortable facilitating workshops with senior designer, technical and editorial stakeholders and managing trade-off discussions

We offer

  • Flexible working*
  • Generous pension scheme; if you contribute 5% then the Guardian will contribute 8-12% (depending on your age)
  • Dental scheme
  • 28 days annual leave (increasing to 30 FY 23/24) and the option to purchase an extra 5 days
  • Up to 18 weeks of parental leave at full pay
  • Multi-faith prayer room
  • Cycle to work scheme and subsidised gym membership
  • Paid volunteering days
  • Annual season ticket loan

More about flexible working arrangements

We encourage flexible working to better balance the needs of the company and employees as their circumstances change over time, and in order to attract and retain a diverse team. No two situations are identical, so please discuss with us at or before the offer stage. In order to help applicants, here are some broad guidelines of the level of flexibility we are able to give for remote working.

Diversity

Diversity in design means diversity of experience, perspective and creativity. That’s why the Guardian actively encourages applications from BAME or other traditionally underrepresented groups in the UK media.

We value and respect all differences in all people (seen and unseen), at the Guardian. And we aspire to an inclusive working experience and an environment that reflects the audience we serve, where our people have equal access to career development opportunities, their voices are heard and can contribute to our future.

Application instructions:

However you identify, and whatever background you bring with you, we welcome you to apply for this role. Please upload your CV, portfolio and covering letter. You should also highlight the extent to which your skills/experience meets the requirements of the role and your motivation behind applying.

Please let us know if there are any changes we could make to the application process to make it easier and more comfortable for you. Contact Esther Johnson– [email protected] so we can work with you to support you throughout your application.

To apply for this position you must already have the right to work in the UK.
