Job description
The BBC is seeking a Senior Transport Manager for its Fleet Operations in England. The BBC operates a varied fleet, ranging from small cars to trucks fitted with specialist broadcast equipment.
The Senior Transport Manager will ensure the delivery of an efficient and legally compliant transport fleet in England, ensuring it is fit for purpose and meets the BBC’s financial, operational and safety requirements. As the person named on the Operating Licence, they will be responsible for ensuring the BBC is compliant with all legal requirements.
- Be the person responsible for holding the BBC’s Operator Licence for England and ensuring the legal requirements of maintaining that licence are adhered to.
- Responsible for matters relating to the safe operation of the Fleet, including drivers, ensuring completion of necessary maintenance schedules and compliance with the DVSA and all UK & International driving regulations.
- Ensure all maintenance checks & repairs are carried out in a timely manner.
- Work with Procurement to manage the overall effectiveness of contractual arrangements for the maintenance of the Fleet.
- With a keen appreciation of production requirements, Fleet governance and DVSA requirements, the Senior Transport Manager will ensure that the Fleet is available to fulfil the demands of the production schedules.
- Where such instances arise, act as the transport lead on the refurbishment and updating of Fleet vehicles, by providing advice as well as practical assistance to all stakeholders.
- Responsible for keeping up to date and complying with all relevant Health and Safety regulations, BBC Health and Safety Guidelines, UK Drivers Guidelines and, European guidelines for commercial drivers.
- Provide advice and guidance to both internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to the purchase of the most economical, suitable for purpose and environmentally friendly vehicles.
- Provision of professional advice to BBC stakeholders relating to key market trends and legal requirements.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and suppliers to resolve issues and ensure the Fleet is available at the required times.
- Participate in Pan-BBC work groups to develop and implement strategic plans relating to the operation and organisation of the Fleet.
- Work closely with the BBC’s Sustainability Team to track improvements in a more sustainable BBC Fleet and report on Fleet CO2 emissions.
- Oversee the move to an electric Fleet.
- Maintain good working relationships with external stakeholders such as the Freight Transport Association (FTA).
- A comprehensive knowledge of and formal qualification in relevant statutory regulations supported by several years’ experience in a similar role.
- Previously held an Operator’s Licence, be a member of a relevant professional body and hold a certificate of professional competence in both Domestic and International Operations.
- Experience of managing contracts with external suppliers.
- A thorough knowledge of appropriate Health and Safety legislation.
- A good working knowledge of PC based systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project Planning.
- To be self-motivated and demonstrate a willingness to own problems.
- Highly effective persuasive and communications skills, both written and oral.
- Experience working with business operations in a large matrix style organisation.
- C+E (HGV1) driving licence and current Driver Qualification Card.
- Experience of planning domestic & international driving schedules within driving hour regulations.
- Experience of dealing with international carnets and customs.
