To make buildings sustainable, we design for better performance from every angle – this way we help our clients create buildings that are efficient with resources, affordable to build and operate, delightful to inhabit and appropriate to their context.

Watch this short clip on how we are shaping a better world!

The opportunity

The Buildings Sustainability team within Arup’s London office is responsible for the development and implementation of sustainability strategies for building development projects in the UK and around the world. We work both as part of multi-disciplinary Arup design teams and independently. We are responsible for development of project level sustainability visions and strategies, which include sustainability ratings (BREEAM, LEED, WELL etc.) as part of a broader sustainability approach including bespoke objectives tuned to our clients’ needs. Within our team we also specialise in wellbeing, as well as carbon strategy, with specialists in lifecycle embodied carbon as well as operational energy and carbon strategy. The world of sustainability is changing rapidly, and our team is engaged within Arup both regionally and globally in helping to shape our firm’s response to the challenge of delivering sustainable development in the broadest sense. We are also active at an industry level with strong links to organisations such as BCO, UKGBC, BBP and LETI.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking to strengthen our leadership team through the recruitment of a chartered Senior Consultant / Associate who will take project leadership responsibility for the delivery of sustainability and carbon-rated commissions on a broad range of development projects. The role will include both project sustainability leadership, including development and implementation of project level sustainability strategies and frameworks, including sustainability certifications such as BREEAM, WELL, LEED, HQM, alongside leading the delivery of LCA and Circular Economy commissions. Alongside project roles, the successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the leadership of the sustainability team and the advancement of the sustainable development agenda within Arup more broadly.

The sustainability team is part of a broader group including both energy and digital specialisms, and the role will involve contributing to the leadership across all these disciplines, including looking for synergies between the specialisms that can improve the way we deliver sustainability across our projects. The successful candidate will take a lead role in the delivery of sustainability across a range of buildings projects, including engaging with clients and project teams (both within Arup and external), managing junior staff in the delivery of the strategy and individual ratings, managing projects commercially. They will engage in work-winning, both management of bids and broader business development activities. They will be expected to represent the sustainability team in Arup forums, and to represent Arup in industry events and working groups.

Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline
  • Able to use life cycle assessment software such as eTool and One Click LCA (desirable but not essential).
  • Qualified as LEED, WELL or BREEAM AP (desirable but not essential).
  • Commercial awareness including the development of bids and proposals, and the on-going management of projects
  • People and project management experience – management of projects including people, resources, programme and deliverables
