Job summary
We are currently seeking applications for a Senior Social Media Manager in the social media team, which sits within the Directorate for Communications, Ministerial Support and Workplace based in Edinburgh.
The social media team sits within the Digital & Content Team, but with strong connections and influence across the Communications Directorate and beyond.
We deliver content for all of the Scottish Government’s main social media channels, and provide expert advice, guidance, training and content development to support social across all of government.
This exciting new position will play a leading role in advancing our social media strategy and output, with a particular focus on advancing our support of Marketing campaigns and paid-for activity.
You will have strong strategic and analytical skills, with a demonstrable track record delivering digital campaigns to support communications objectives.
A self-starter, you will be able to identify and prioritise competing communications priorities, maintaining a high standard of content delivery and line managing at least two team members.
This post attracts a £3,000 Communications Pay Supplement, rising to £5,000 on completion of 12 months' successful service. This is paid in addition to your salary. Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review.
Job description
- Oversee and develop in-house social media campaigns and provide expert strategic support for marketing campaigns, including paid-for advertising on social media.
Ensure all content is of a high standard, meets objectives, is cost effective, and integrates effectively with other channels.
Work with the Head of Social Content to support the development and implementation of the Scottish Government’s social media strategy. Devise and oversee the implementation of tests/pilots and effectiveness indicators to optimise digital communications.
Build relationships and optimise ways of working with the Communications division to nurture collaborative working and a Digital First approach, particularly with the Marketing department.
Create and review social media plans and strategies, both by the Social Media team and externally, advising on ways to maximise our online reach and championing accessibility standards.
Develop and champion the Scottish Government’s branding across our entire social media estate.
Be a visible champion for the team across the organisation, raising awareness of the value of social media and building appreciation of, and support for, our approach.
Collaborate on monitoring engagements across our channels and escalate issues or concerns as required for rapid resolution.
Provide line management and supervision to a team of Social Media Managers and occasional temporary staff, overseeing content output and workflows.
Person specification
Essential Criteria
1. Proven experience of the full digital campaigns cycle, from strategy to delivery and evaluation, using both paid-for and organic activity.
2. Expert understanding of the current and potential future social media landscapes.
3. Good judgement to inform appropriate use of social media, alongside the ability to prioritise under pressure.
4. Excellent communications skills combined with the confidence to deal with and influence people at all levels.
