The Bookseller, part of The Stage Media Company, is dedicated to providing up-to-date news and services for the book publishing industry. The Bookseller has established itself as a leader within its fields, offering industry news, authoritative reviews/interviews and insightful features as well as jobs boards, events and awards.
We are looking for a person to cover a temporary 12-month period of maternity leave. We envision this role to be full time but it would also suit someone searching for a part-time (4-days a week) position. It will support the Director of Business Relations as part of the Commercial team.
The key purpose of this role will be to initiate, manage discussion and sell advertising solutions across all channels to potential clients and agencies in line with the company's advertising strategy.
It will also develop and maintain relationships with customers to generate commercial revenues and achieve financial and yield targets.
Key responsibilities and tasks include, but are not limited to:
- To identify and contact new business clients for both on and offline advertising opportunities
- Manage both existing and new accounts with a high degree of professionalism
- Build relationships with the aim of developing revenue streams, commercial benefit or identifying new areas of opportunity
- Provide timely follow up on all advertising inquiries and maintain availability by telephone and email to customers and staff members
- Promote the brand and brand extensions, on and offline, to all advertisers in all sales activity
- Take any opportunity to gather testimonials from advertisers
- Monitor online advert response and act to ensure advertising campaigns are successful wherever possible
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all our advertising products, competitor products and market conditions
- Maintain up to date sales records via the contact management system to prescribed standards including electronic confirmation of all bookings from the customer/agency
- Learn and adapt to new technologies and in turn present these technologies where appropriate to clients and agencies to generate revenue
- Coordinate with Commercial Coordinator to flat plan the recruitment section timely and effectively
- Attend and participate in staff meetings when called and present reports on personal sales activity
- Provide updates of activity and projected sales to the DBR
- Represent the company at business meetings, occasions and events (during and outside normal office hours)
- Work with other members of the team, to share, cooperate or generate sales leads as appropriate
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with both internal (e.g. Sales team, Commercial Coordinator and Integral2) and external customers/suppliers
Skills required:
- Excellent sales ability
- Proven experience of CRM management (ideally Salesforce)
- Proficient IT skills including MS Office 365, Google office tool
- Strong organisation, administration, accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Professional approach to client interaction and deadlines
- High level of interpersonal skill and flexibility
- Experience of people management desirable

Other information:
The role will be based in The Stage Media Company’s offices at least two days a week, although it is accepted that the jobholder may be required to work outside these times and out of the office as necessary and as agreed in advance.
Salary would be 80% of FTE if filled as part-time, 4-day working week.
