Description

The role of Senior Radiographer is to provide effective, efficient and safe imaging services to meet the needs of inpatients and outpatients departments in line with best practice, and Schoen Clinic’s enhanced recovery pathways.

In cooperation with the Imaging Manager, to provide clinical leadership to the Diagnostic Imaging Service by:

· Overseeing day to day imaging service delivery with a high degree of professionalism ensuring effective deployment of staff and the provision of a high quality, responsive, patient focussed service

· To maintain a safe service compliant with MHRA guidance and Radiation regulatory & statutory requirements

· To actively participate in the clinical workload of the department, providing a consistent, high-quality service to all customers in line with Schoen Clinic’s enhanced recovery pathways

Principle Duties

  • To ensure that high quality, responsive diagnostic imaging services are delivered to meet the needs of all customers and the business
  • To maintain ongoing dialogue with Consultant Radiologists on all clinical aspects of the imaging service delivery ensuring sessional use is maximized
  • To support the Imaging Service Manager by attending meetings (minimum annual) with Radiologists to discuss clinical and operational issues.
  • To build and maintain excellent multi-disciplinary consultant relations ensuring clinical service delivery meets clinical requirements
  • As requested by the Imaging Manager, oversee the day-to-day operational supervision of the imaging service
  • Work with the Imaging Manager to ensure department policies and procedures are established and maintained and signed off by the Imaging Manager / appropriate Radiologist(s)
  • To support the Imaging Manager by contributing to the Clinical Governance programme, maintenance of clinical standards and undertaking clinical audit
  • To support the Imaging Manager in ensuring the requirements of Private Medical Insurer (PMI) recognition status are met and maintained with timely completion of required audits
  • To assist with RIS / PACS administration as a Super User
  • Conduct diagnostic imaging examinations as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi professional team in line with professional & departmental standards
  • In conjunction with the Imaging Manager, recruit and retain high calibre staff within the department maintaining a staff complement which demonstrably ensures optimum patient care and safety while meeting the business needs
  • To support the Imaging Manager in development and provision of appropriate PGDs / PSDs and to ensure staff complete and maintain PGD competency training & assessment.
  • Hold an Intravenous Injection qualification / competency to administer contrast media in line with department SOP & protocols
  • Encourage and maintain an open and participative culture, fostering a supportive environment for staff and consultants ensuring excellent communication and motivation
  • Ensure that the appraisal system is applied to all staff. Participate in and support staff CPD ensuring compliance with professional body, and mandatory requirements, to develop staff to their full potential and provide maximum benefit for employee and Schoen Clinic.
  • To ensure personal Continual Professional Development and maintain a professional portfolio in line with HCPC & College of Radiographers recommendations and requirements and complete specific role related training as required by and agreed with, the Imaging Manager
  • To participate in regular peer review meetings between the imaging team members
  • To act professionally within the standard and framework provided by the HCPC and College of Radiographers ‘Code of Professional Conduct’.
  • To work with the MR Safety Advisor / MPE, RPA and the Department Manager to ensure the imaging department complies with all statutory regulations and optimises examination protocols
  • Ensure all work environments are safe and that all Local Rules and Systems of Work are observed
  • To report any hazards or incidents in line with Schoen Clinic procedures, oversee the departmental risk assessments and to support the department Health & Safety representatives
  • Actively participate in department audits and, with the Imaging Manager, monitor external audits (e.g., CQC, MPE, MRSE, RPA) checking for compliance ensuring Recommendations are noted and Action Plans completed in a timely manner
  • To be aware of and monitor all revenue capture procedures and ensure that charges are completed, checked, and dispatched in a timely manner
  • With the Imaging Manager, manage stock control in the department
  • Be aware of and communicate commercial, financial, billing, and contractual requirements to team to enable accurate compliance with procedures
  • Evaluate images for unexpected findings and escalate concerns in accordance with departmental procedure
  • Participate in developing and support the Imaging Department Business Plan
  • Undertake other duties that might be considered appropriate by the Imaging Manager, especially during busy periods.

Essential Skills:

  • Up to date skills and knowledge on current diagnostic practice
  • Supervisory experience
  • Competency to carry out unsupervised MRI, theatre imaging and plain x-ray. Ability in CT scanning or a willingness to train to enhance skills.
  • Knowledge & understanding of MHRA MR, IRR & IR(ME)R regulations
  • Confident RIS / PACS user
  • Confident communication skills – verbal and written
  • Adaptable interpersonal skills
  • An advocate of high customer care standards able to create a positive and proactive approach to customer service
  • Knowledge of clinical governance particularly relating to Diagnostic Imaging

Desirable Skills:

  • Additional post-grad qualification
  • Competency across all four modalities
  • Experience with advanced orthopaedic radiographic techniques e.g. calibration devices, templating software, macro analysis
