Job description

As a Senior Project Manager, you will manage the delivery of medium to large projects, major sub-projects of programmes or workstreams within projects.

The role holder's will support Programme Managers with significant and challenging Portfolio activities and manage Programme and Project Delivery Teams, providing specialist support, guidance and hands-on delivery across the DVSA Change Portfolio.

The successful candidates will promote the use of preferred delivery methodologies (PRINCE2, AGILE, MSP and SCRUM) across the Change Portfolio, while supporting the Head of Profession with the development of the Programme and Project Management Community in using chosen methodologies in line with the Corporate Assurance Framework and Portfolio Management Office processes.

You will be expected to travel to DVSA sites across the UK on business which may include overnight stays.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Project managing medium to large projects to DVSA’s standards following appropriate methodologies in line with Agency Governance and Assurance controls
  • Liaising with portfolio team, programme management or related projects to ensure that work is neither overlooked nor duplicated and that interdependencies are properly managed
  • Managing business and project decisions, risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies, including the development of contingency plans
  • Preparing end stage reports, report monthly dashboards & prepare any follow-on action recommendations.

Person specification

We are looking for someone with proven experience of successfully delivering projects and/ or programmes. You will have proven business change and general management experience. You will have previously been involved in the delivery of project principles, including risk management, benefits delivery and stakeholder and change management.

You will have excellent communication skills and can interact confidently with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels.

You will be experienced in reporting methods especially dashboards, scorecards, and general status reporting. You are experienced in writing business cases and have experience of budgeting.

You will have experience in resource management and a working knowledge of portfolio management.

You are highly proficient in a broad range of Project Management methodologies.

DVSA projects are all managed and delivered using appropriate project management principles, so if you do not already hold the appropriate practitioner certification, we will support you to gain this qualification when in post.

There will be occasional travel required with this role in Great Britain, including overnight stays.
