Global Asset Management, the investment management business of the HSBC Group, serves HSBC’s worldwide customer base of retail and private clients, intermediaries, corporates and institutions invested in both segregated accounts and pooled funds. Global Asset Management fulfils its purpose of connecting HSBC’s clients with investment opportunities around the world through an international network of offices in approximately 30 countries, delivering global capabilities with local market insight.
We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as Senior Multi Asset Investment Specialist, working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.
- As Multi Asset is expanding its focus from internal to external clients, the key objectives of the role will be developing our external client’s AUM as a strategic driver for growth supporting our internal clients and primarily GPW, GPB and Insurance as a key part of AMG’s business strategy.
- AMG strategy with GPW is to focus on delivering Managed Solutions, thematic Multi Asset products and Asset Allocation servicing aligned with GPW’s client objectives and constraints.
- The Investment Specialist is an investment expert focus on supporting AMG’s range of Multi-Asset products and ensuring an effective link between portfolio management and distribution. He/she is able to explain the portfolio past performance and the current portfolio positioning. He/she understands our client needs and is anxious to retain our current investors and grow our investor base.
- An important part of the role is improving HSBC GAM’s positioning in the market via the local and global media. Working with AMG Communications teams, the incumbent will be expected to host media “round-tables’, write articles and appear regularly in local press (print, TV & radio) in addition to client/distributor events. The focus will be raising awareness of HSBC’s multi asset product range.
- The role is client-facing, focusing on supporting sales momentum and servicing our current investors most notably via client visits, client events, investment commentaries, media interactions, articles, white papers and clients’ briefings.
- The individual will position HSBC GAM Multi Asset as a leading capability by developing and delivering ‘client friendly’ presentations & written collaterals to a wide spectrum of customers.
- The individual will develop & build a business strategy to identify market opportunities to best position HSBC Multi Asset against competitors
- The individual is expected to contribute to a product strategy with the Global Business.
- The Investment Specialist will review the local product shelf and ensure that they meet the long term needs of our clients. He/she will make recommendations to enhance the product offering and potentially suggest products rationalization.
- The individual will work closely with all stakeholders and will help coordinate their activities, including the portfolio management teams, relationship and servicing teams.
- The role will require interaction with senior management and may include team management.
In this role, you will:
- Participate in the evolution of product capabilities (e.g. fund launches, re-organization), act as a key point person for fund launches and revamp.
- Maintain solid understanding of competitive positioning.
- Provide regular feedback on key competitors and market trends
- Keep track of regulatory changes which have impact on investment funds (including MPF and ORSO) and coordinate with relevant stakeholders for actions.
- Represent Investment Team to Internal and External Clients
- Expert on the funds’ investment process, views and positions
- Provide thought leadership in product space, to include written materials for external publication
- Deliver effective client communication to targeted client segments
- Understands how our process differs from key competitors
- Provide topical market and strategy updates to sales teams on a regular basis
- Provide timely comments on the fund’s performance and ensure pro-active communication is made in case of a “market event”
- Proactively communicate sales propositions and investment opportunities
- Provide regular written portfolio strategy commentary for use in client reports / fact sheets according to pre-agreed deadlines
- Update marketing materials and contribute to RFPs
- At the request of Client Directors to attend client meetings as well as and seminars/events
Major Challenges
- The UK is a key Multi-Asset investment platform and a key priority market for HSBC with significant demands for support and expectations for growth. As well as meeting client group expectations, the role requires flexibility to deal with a wide range of tasks in order to meet deliverables along the value chain, ranging from administrative to higher value added content production. The role also needs to work effectively with the other Multi-Asset Investment Specialists supporting the EMEA and Asia markets to maximize efficiency
- This position will play a key role of expanding our business to external clients and internal clients – assisting sales teams to build new relationships with institutional and wholesale clients and ensuring we have the right product line up.
- A strong understanding of the market place and best practices will help drive the initiatives and establish the appropriate standards.
- The role may include the oversight of Investment Specialists.
- Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
- Proven experience working in a multi-asset role; whether as Investment specialist, sales, in research/fund management or investment consultancy/institutional role will be a key requirement
- Experience working in a large global organization and working with the challenges posed by an international business function is highly advantageous.
- Experience in working with Senior Management (Executive level)
- Problem solver attitude
- Good understanding of regulatory requirements
- CFA or equivalent post degree investment qualification
- Highly motivated and the ability to work independently
- Strong presentation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Travel is required
- Fluency in English and if possible Cantonese and Mandarin
