Leeds Beckett University is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer (0.8fte) in landscape architecture within Leeds School of Arts. The candidate will have successfully completed a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture or a closely related subject and be able to demonstrate a good record of Landscape design practice and a high level of achievement in teaching and research.
Established in 1967 courses in Landscape Architecture sit within the Leeds School of Architecture in Leeds School of Arts and have enjoyed continuing recognition from the Landscape Institute. One of our goals as a discipline and a profession is to bring a new generation to the subject who have the design skills and creative solutions to address the environmental challenges that face us. The successful candidate will have an important role as part of our team developing these skills in our students. Our graduates continue to contribute to the landscape profession worldwide on highly significant projects and are very well regarded by landscape practice.
The Senior Lecturer role will involve teaching on the BA(Hons) Landscape Architecture course and postgraduate programme. We are particularly looking for candidates with skills in design processes, informed by natural systems and landscape ecology who are interested in collaborating across disciplines. The successful candidate will also provide year group leadership along with module/subject delivery. You will also assist in the development of landscape architecture education through research informed teaching, and enterprise. You will be a Chartered or Academic member of the Landscape Institute or equivalent professional/international body. You will be a strong team player, demonstrate excellent skills in subject leadership and in team-working, organisation and management. You will be an advocate for responsible and inclusive practices and be a champion for promoting diversity and equality in landscape architecture.
Leeds School of Architecture offers undergraduate, post graduate and PhD programmes in landscape architecture, urban design, architecture and interior design. This brings opportunities for research as well as engagement between staff and students through our studio culture. This is delivered with access to the exceptional facilities provided in Broadcasting Place and the wider resources available across the Leeds School of Arts. Uniquely our teaching gardens at the Landscape Resource Centre offers students and staff opportunities to develop practical skills and research. Applied staff research and design practice underpin the delivery of our courses with staff interests including environmental art, biophilic design and urban greening.
The School of Architecture sits within the highly regarded Leeds School of Arts and its tradition of excellence in the creative arts. Our teaching is studio-based with a strong emphasis on learning in a creative, collaborative environment. Through the application of skills, the courses address the role of the contemporary designer in relation to physical, environmental and social contexts, from retro-fitting our cities, to health and wellbeing and the challenges faced in our rural landscapes. We also offer students experience of ‘live projects’ with community participation. The vibrant culture of the course is enhanced through strong links to practice in both a UK and international context.
The role is 0.8 Full Time Equivalent/4.0 days per week.
